I don't think he will stay, but my understanding is that both he and his parents would like him to... he likes the team, the school and is still only 18... the problem is how do you pass up all of that guaranteed money? No way he slips past #2 in the draft. Do you trade one more year of college for $20 mil?

It is a given that Oden goes. If you could tell one thing from that narrow OSU win this weekend over Xavier, it was how bad the team chemistry was. He barely got off the bench when they hit the 3 to force OT. I am not saying Oden is a bad kid either. My understanding is that he and Durrant both are very solid humans for guys that have been catered to all their lives.

I would say he is solid did you see that foul at the end of the Xavier game wow. I have also heard that they are both good guys. There is a definite need for class in the NBA. I just hope they stay in class another year or so. Ohio State v. Texas in 2008 Championship Game

Correct me if I'm wrong, Granger, but I remember reading that young Mr. Durant isn't even enrolled in a course at UT this semester. I guess there are all sorts of nuances about what is "enrolled," but seems to me that if you're not even going through the motions of being a student, you probably aren't planning to stick around ...

I vote he's gone ...

John

Bobby Knight was ranting about this too. I'm not versed on my NCAA rules, but something isn't right when a kid can do this.

For the life of me, I cannot get the debate about kids leaving early for the professionals. They can always come back to finish up if it's really that important to them and their families.

That is just plain wrong. He should be ineligible for doing that.

Yep, but very few ever do.

Is that true or is it just what Knight said could happen?

I can't quote him, but Knight was arguing that the rules were bad to allow this to happen. I think he said that Durant didn't have to go to class if he didn't want to. I don't know if he mentioned anything about him not being enrolled, but he did say that he didn't blame Durant, because he wasn't breaking any rule. It's just that the rule is flawed.

News flash: Kevin Durant has accepted a scholarship to the Permian Basin Transmission and Dental Emporium to participate in basketball for the Drillers in the upcoming 2007-2008 season.

Head coach of the Drillers, "Slim" Devil is quoted," This kid has some potential and I think after I get through whipping him into shape, he may help us next year."

Durant stated that an opportunity to play for the PBT&DE prompted his to decline the NBA, "Its not everyday that a person gets a chance to be coached by the Devil and they have a bitching bus."

i dont see either one of them staying..first money..second from what I hear there are two more individuals with similar type potential coming in next..Mayo and some other fellow..not that he would slip far in the draft if he stayed..but i doubt he stays..at least for my Red Raiders sake i hope he goes

I believe I was mis-quoted. It would definitely take 2-3 years to get him ready to step on the court for the Drillers.

call me crazy, but not being enrolled in classes and not having to go to classes are 2 completely different things. I dont know of a college student (athlete or not) that is FORCED to go to his/her classes. In fact i only see half of my classmates on exam days, because typically around half of the class only shows up on the 3 or 4 exam days. Not being enrolled in classes means not having classes to go to at all.... So which is it? He isnt enrolled in classes... or he isnt being forced to go to his classes?

I think it's assumed that when he isn't going class, he's not taking exams either. There was a big stink at Tech a few years back when one of their RBs had already declared for the draft, but was still enrolled (on scholarship.) He didn't go to class and ended up with a 0.00 GPA for the semester. I think that contributed to a shake up with the NCAA, although I think it mostly stemmed from Coach Dickey and the roundball program.

Durant goes first and Oden #2. Durant proved he is the more versatile player. Oden played big in the finals, but he was inconsistent all year. Durant poured in 25 every night but 4 or 5 games, even then he put in 18-20!!! Durant will be the first pick.Oden is gonna be another Greg Ostertag!!
