Just sad

I understand being from the small 6 man communities and struggling with the numbers and having enough kids to play, but watching Calvert play tonight was just sad. They came in with I think 9 kids. Weren’t ready to play. Opening kickoff actually goes backwards and nobody bats an eye at it. Oakwood picks up and take it to the house and it just seemed to spiral out of control from there. Oakwood ran 3 offensive plays and had scored 5 times in the first quarter. Nobody seemed to care. Coaches didn’t seem to be doing much for them. Hardly any fans to cheer them on. Being down 61-0 with 2 minutes left in the half. They just gave up and took a knee. Absolutely sad to watch.

That's the thing with 6 man football...with small numbers, lack of talent really shows. If they are like most kids, the game probably got into their heads before it even started. They haven't played a team on Oakwood's level, until they played Oakwood, but against the teams ranked below 150th, they still averaged almost 60 points per game. Six man football is pretty full of games just like this.

Lack of fans makes it even harder on the kids, I'd imagine. I've also noticed that at away games, here and there, when we have more fans than the home team. I'm sure that also gets into their heads.

A big part of life is getting kicked in the head over and over and over but getting up every time and moving forward. We may lose at everything we do in life but still win the ultimate prize. That takes a strength the “champions” can’t imagine very often. In that, we should save our pity for those who miss out in the end. My opinion anyway.
