Junior High Success = Varsity Success???

I'm curios whether success in junior high football is a reliable indicator of how successful the Varsity team will be? I'm interested in hearing about the current Gordon team's record from junior high, the past Richland Springs record, and any other successful Varsity teams records from junior high. Strawn? Benjamin? May? Others?

I remember Borden County when they had their run had dominated in junior high. Same with Westbrook, that Back to Back Westbrook team was undefeated both years in junior high.

Are there any other teams like this? How reliable is the junior high records for a successful high school record???

I think you can't put a lot of faith in JH or JV records in predicting varsity level success across the board. Now the quality of coaching at those lower levels can positively effect outcomes for sure. But schools playing sixman, outcomes can greatly vary depending on as little as one or two players and their development.

The current varsity team for Gordon has only lost one game since 5th grade and that was against Abbott by 8 points I think their freshman year

The current Water Valley varsity team has had very successful youth, and JH seasons. I believe starting in a youth program paved the way for success. Communicating with your High school coaches on what formations, defenses, and position terminology to coach, gives the players boost for success in JH, and high school.

The West Texas Youth Football program has helped several current top 10 schools have success. Klondike, Borden County, Westbrook, Water Valley are a few of those schools that have participated and competed well.

Walters has been there since 4th grade and Reed got here freshman year when the basketball coach left and he was hired.

I know of a one JH, one HS 4A school, probably there are more than one, that start in 7th grade running the same offense and same defense as they will through HS. They have won state about 4 times and gone to state about 4 times that they didn’t win. The HS coaches and AD are involved with JH and JH coaches are involved with HS. These kids never huddle. All plays are called from side line. Yes I believe that this helps. Multiple JHs in large schools makes it harder.

Case in point. My son is a senior at Bluff Dale. They beat Gordon his 8th grade year.

Usually if they are good in JR High they have developed quicker than other kids and may not grow much after. Size matters and a small kid that gets bashed and beat early learns to work hard constantly where those with advantages young tend not to. If an entire town doesn’t live to win it’s not going to happen often. That is, great athletes are made, good athletes are just talented and blessed physically. Just an observation from the stands.

I would assume that if the kids that had great success in JH would translate to high school only if nobody moved out and everyone stayed. We had a great JH and had a lot of really talented kids leave that wouldve helped us in HS. Yet, we still had better than average success in HS without them but... if they stayed wow lol. Would've been great times!!! And a lot more depth!
