Little known fact: John Wayne actually started his movie career as "Singing Cowboy"............
Well, Pilgrim, they tried to make him a singing cowboy but finally figured out he could fake fight a heck of a lot better than he could sing.

Did I ever tell ya'll I once played pojo with Tommy Lee Jones?.................
Before Lonesome Dove.....................
You played pojo with Call?
They Were Expendable.
What does any of this mean
Pojo's kind of a pun on polo.
Tommy Lee played Call in Lonesome Dove. Call was very, very, very loosely based on Charles Goodnight by Larry Mc Murtry.
Expendables is a John (Marion Morrison) Wayne movie.
Oop's, almost forgot. The Barbarian and the Geisha.

Pee Ess. Hint: if you missed it earlier Leonard Slye= Roy Rogers= singing cowboy # 2.

Hint # 2. Autry was born near Tioga TX (near Denton), location of house he was born in is now under water in Lake Ray Roberts. He was raisied in Achille & Ravia OK. Later bought a ranch outside Berwyn OK & the townfolk's renamed it Gene Autry. http://www.cow-boy.com/museum.htm
Dad stopped by there on the way to ??? when I was a kid. It was closed but I remember the grounds.
Blood Alley.

Daddy's Duke Story. End of WWII Army Staff Sargent in the Phillipines. 1949? a guy who worked for him & knew he liked to fly (had a piper cub) suggested they join the Marine Corps Reserve & they could fly such & such a plane through the Naval Reserve Base. Korea, activated. El Toro, CA., Flight Crew Chief. John Wayne & co come to shoot scenes for Flying Leathernecks. "Filming" plane breaks down. Dad seeks & obtains permission to use a base plane for 3-4 filming runs (most flight scenes in the movie come from a film library). They remove a door & anchor down a tripod.
That evening the crew & a few others were invited to steaks & drinks with the Duke in a tent on site.
I was told he was the same in person as on screen, down to earth.

I read once that after finishing filming The Sands of Iwo Jima, the Duke brought in several cases of whiskey and shared them with the Marines that DoD let them use as extras.
