Independent Bowl Championship

Okay Coaches,
Due to the fact that I am a TAPPS 3A school I am suppose to play 11 man football. I had 12 boys finish the season this year. My boys are tired of playing basically just to say they played football in high school and our number continue to decrease. I don't see our school moving to 11 man for a few years. So, I need to find out if anyone else is interested in participating in a Independent Team Playoff and Championship game for 2009 season. Here is how it will work if we have enough teams. I would like for us to split the team in half or teams in a general area (San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, etc.) take the top 2 or 3 schools from that area and have a playoff game weeks 7,8,9 and championship game on week 10. This would pass any schools involved in TAPPS and it is not a conference because that is a no, no also in TAPPS. Below are the schools already interested in participating and I will take the reigns and lead it this year if needed. I would like to just get more schools involved so that this can be an exciting opportunity for all of our athletes. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 281-991-9191 ext. 284

Coach Stewart

First Baptist Christian Academy (Pasadena)
Emery Weiner (Houston)
Clear Lake (Houston)
Round Rock (Austin)

I know we would in Waxahachie Advantage Academy and I'm sure the Grand Prairie Advantage Academy would.
Can I get more information on this. And is it going on this year (as of now)?

We did not do it this season (2008) I am new to this area and wanted to get here and just get to know some of the schools in the area and other independent schools. I am working on schedules and teams let me know if your are interested in participating next year. I hope to have all the schedules done by December so that we all can feel our open dates.

1st Year to have this organized. Has gone very well so far, and I believe all the teams involved have enjoyed the competition. Playoffs start this week.

Baytown Christian vs. Clear Lake Christian Friday 7:30 PM
Round Rock Christian vs. Houston Emery/Weiner Sat. 7 PM at Bellville Faith Academy

The winners will play for the Championship the following week, and the losing teams will play each other.

Should be an interesting couple of weeks of games!

Houston Emery/Weiner (6-3, 4th Ranked Independent Team) will play Clear Lake Christian (7-1, 2nd Ranked Indpendent Team) at Clear Lake Saturday at 3 PM for the 2009 Independent Bowl Championship. These two teams are the highest ranked Independent teams with a game remaining on their schedule. The outcome of this game could determine who finishes #1 in the sixmanfootball.com poll for the 2009 season. Beautiful weather is in the forecast, and it should be a good game as Clear Lake defeated Emery/Weiner 28-26 two weeks ago. So, if you are in the Houston area and free this Saturday come see these two teams in action.

I hope someone is more deserving at #1 than sja. They were 45 by half twice, lost by 42. 5 wins were against cupcake teams (1st yr varsity homeschool team,Groom, hedley, chapel, and anton a team that doesn't know what to play 6 man or 11 man. There got to be 10 or 12 independent teams that are alot better, please.

Independent Bowl Championship could influence who finishes #1 in Independent Poll to end the season.

Strength of Schedule! SJ lost to DII #2 Sidney, DI #4 Follett, and Private DI #2 Greenville Christian.
sj just didn't lose, they were embrassed! They did not even give them a game! If sj is #1 independent, then no team in independent class would be ranked in top 25. yung, nobody talks about sj's wins against cupcake teams? Strength of schedule! Please!

It appears to sixman.com that we have ended our season more like the least of the strong private teams (top ten) rather than the best of the weak teams. I like that outcome much better. Always nice to hear from you yungun. Come see us some time and tell Coach Ware I said Hi and God Bless. The posts have been interesting to say the least. See ya next year.

The Houston Emery/Weiner School won the 2009 Independent Bowl Championship defeating Clear Lake Christian School 40-26 Saturday afternoon in Clear Lake. It was a beautiful day for a football, with the Houston Air Show flying above, and two very good teams competing. Anyone have a score in the Baytown Christian vs. Round Rock Christian game? Thanks go to all involved in making the Independent Bowl a success this season.

It will be interested to see how the outcome of the Independent Bowl will effect the final Independent Rankings. I think all the independent top 4 teams have completed their season. #1 Amarillo San Jacinto 5-3, #2 Clear Lake Christian 7-2, #3 Fort Hancock 4-2, and #4 Houston Emery/Weiner 7-3. Can't wait to see Granger's rankings on Monday!
