Favre to return

Yeah, I'm happy.

As long as the Pack spends that $10 million they're under the cap and try and give him a chance to go out a winner.

Sooner or later, Farve needs to retire. I remember Bart Starr only retired because his shoulder gave out and he couldn't throw ... I guess the lucky guys are those like John Elway (Broncos) and David Robinson (Spurs) who can retire as champions.

Once Farve retires, the Pack gets about a $14-15 million salary cap hit because Brett has a backloaded contract (remember what happened when Aikman retired? bingo!)

As for selling tickets, well, the Packers don't need to worry about that. Folks who put their names on the list (or the children and grandchildren of those folks) back in the late 60's or 1970 are just getting to the top of the list. If you get on the waiting list today, you'll be lucky to get season tickets in 80-100 years.

The only reason I got tickets is that my dear, departed Irish mother put us on the list in 1965 -- we got to the top in 1990, only because (1) there were "only" 9400 names ahead of us on the list (each asking for up to 4 tickets) and (2) Lambeau Field expanded from about 35000 to 70000 in that time. It's now around 80,000, and I don't see an expansion anytime soon.

It might help a few clubs who don't sell out to move a few tickets when Green Bay comes to town. Two stories: Once, back in the 90's before the Vikings could sell out the Metrodome, the Pack played there on a Monday night. So many Packer fans bought tickets, there was a time in the third quarter that the Vikings got a delay of game penalty because of the fan noise -- from Packer fans.

The other story goes from when the Tampa Bay Bucs were in the same division as the Packers. The Bucs never sold out and a lot of Packer fans would fly to Tampa, buy tickets and make a trip out of the game (hey, it usually was pretty cold in Wisconsin when the Pack played the Bucs). Often, it sounded like a Packer home crowd. It got so bad that the Bucs required anyone buying single game tickets for the Packers game would have to buy tickets for ANOTHER Bucs home game at the same time.

Pack fans are faithful....A lot like the Bear fans I've met up here. My wife's late uncle was a season ticket holder from 1943 until he died in 1995. He went to the Superbowl game in 1986, had a heart attack in his motel room in New Orleans the morning of the game. He refused to go to the hospital, and instead went on to the game, watched his beloved Bears rip the Pats, took a flight home that night and went straight from Midway airport to the hospital.....

Favre is getting old... he can still play good football though. The Packers, being my favourite team, are lucky to have him.

And under Illinois law, that is justified homicide. You were lucky, Bearkat.

Yep, and the minor fact I am married to his neice helped a little bit. I did used to like skating close to the edge......

I don't see a Superbowl in his future... might be time to fade away.

Well,Well,What a Surprise...

It's been a great year for the Packers, but I'm not making Super Bowl plans. They have a killer two weeks coming up ... at Detroit on Turkey Day (hey, the Lions can be 0-99 and still win that game) and the next Thursday at the Cowboys.

I'd call a Packer win at Dallas an upset; my guess is that the NFC Championship winner will have to play at least once in Irving. And maybe twice, if you know what I mean.
