Congratulations Gordon

51eleven

Six-man expert
I know you lost, on the last play of the game. That has to hurt after the game you played. Sorry I was late and missed it. Great game from all I heard. Some gave you almost no chance against the former # 3 team in the State. I heard that other than 1 72 yard td run you pretty well shut down potentially the best RB in six man history. I also heard from an experinced observer of the game that if you play the way you did today all year you could go a long way.

one of the BEST games of the day. Gordon showed they are a contender. They had FOUR defensive stands in the red zone and shut down the offense of Ira. Two very good teams. NO it did not know the Horns way but it most defiantly opened some eyes across the state.

Morris is a fine running back, but far from one of the best in six man history....Not taking a shot at the kid, just from what I have seen through the years.

I agree with Golden, I've seen Morris run and he is hell on wheels but I don't know that he's the best in 6-man history. Still, I doubt that there is a team out there that wouldn't want him in the starting lineup.

If Gordon can play the way they did today, and stay healthy, you can expect to see them in the semifinals. This is the best team Gordon has had in several years, and definatly one of the best teams in the East.

I would suggest that maybe weather had something to do with the narrow margins of victory for both Ira and Valley at Hico on Saturday.

You take a bunch of West Texas kids who are used to 100+ degree days with15 - 20% humidity, and put them in a sauna - it could have an effect on their play.

Not making any excuses, I'm sure Jonesboro and Gordon are quite talented teams. But they were playing in their element.

Just my opinion.

Sounds like an excuse to me..."their element" really? that is NO ONES element... Gordon played one heck of a game, the difference was kicking, # 33 for Gordon chased down # 12 from behind twice. Gordon had more speed across the board, They were more physical and BOTH these teams are going to have great years. Ira Coach quoted to Abilene Reporter about Gordon, " I did not see just one star, what i saw was a very solid Football team"
As for the Jonesboro/Valley game. Jonesboro has two key injuries can't remember their numbers but when those kids went out the tide started to turn in Valley's favor. All in all their were three very contested games with the exception of the Strawn/ Walnut Springs game which was a shut out. The day was a great day of football. For those who braved the heat and came out it was well worth it. I think every team there learned something about where they are in respect to their program. looking forward to week one to see if the lessons learned will be applied.

OMG,
the weather?
Seriously?

I really didn't want to even comment on this thread but...
Gordon was more "physical" than Ira? Uh No I don't think so
Gordon has more "speed" than Ira? Uh No I don't think so
Ira has the best RB in Sixman history? Uh No, yes a great RB that any team would love to have but is not the only player that can run the ball on the Ira team as you saw yesterday.
How may turnovers did Ira have? A bunch and still pulled out the win, adapt and overcome.

A great game between two top contender teams for sure. It's still early in the season and teams still have lots of kinks to work out, no excuses for the game other than that. Gordon has a stout team but still has to figure out a few things and same thing goes for Ira. No one should take Gordon lightly and their season will show just that, I have high hopes for them this year. Congrats to both teams on a hard fought game.

True enough, but I don't think Ira was more physical or had better speed than Gordon either. These two teams were so evenly matched that it came down to extra points and a last second score. Good job to the Bulldogs on finding a way to win. Good job to the Horns too. I'm really hoping for a re-match once both teams have fixed their problem areas.

The teams that were supposed to win won. How in the heck do you interpret excuse making?

Never mind - getting east bracket fanboys to engage in honest debate is - well - like trying to get east bracket fanboys to engage in honest debate.

But -

Depth was a factor for Jonesboro, I'll give you that.

True the teams that were picked to win did indeed win, but not by as many as predicted. Depth is a major factor for any program. The excuse seems to be that if their was less humidity then these two west teams would have just dominated the competition, who knows, and really who cares. all i know is that these games were awesome to watch as a six man fan. too many times there are offensive score fest and very few defensive battles on the six man gridiron but not in three of the games. which was a nice change, its good to see teams and programs getting back to smash mouth football. Good luck to the teams on week one, week zero is over and the outcomes cannot be changed so stay focused on the next game and not the ones already played.

I didn't see anything about the 2 TDS called back on Gordon and the Dropped pass on the 1 yard line. To much laundry on the field.
I believe Ira had one called back as well or at least it was a good play called back. Good luck to both teams. Maybe next time they meet if at all it
will be snowing!!!!

That was just one factor out of many that could have changed the game. Had they taken care of the other issues that they COULD control, the one that they COULDN'T would not have been a factor. If you leave yourselves in a position to get beat by someone else, you shouldn't complain when they do!

The comment on Morris was from memory out of DCTF. "(last year) 3263, 53 td's rushing, 1120, 17 td's passing, probably the most explosive player in six an and may set the state career rushing record". Cograt's again on pretty well shutting him/them down. 1 td rushing, 1 passing. Great job Horns.

That should be a placard on every lockeroom wall.
