That's crazy having enrollment at 65 still playing 11 man.

I know Munday sure should join. They keep playing 11man because they won state like 20 years ago
They have 1A numbers but have been adamant that their numbers will go back up, when exactly they expect it to go up wasn’t specified, so I didn’t bother to list them.

Decided to keep tabs on these teams, will add Munday to the list, separately I will keep a watch on Charlotte, even though they have an enrollment of 137, they only had 18 players now down to 13 for varsity and no freshman or JV team to move into place.

Munday 104 1-2 4-3
Hamlin 103.5 1-0 5-1
Cross Plains 102.5 0-1 3-3
Hull-Daisetta 101 0-3 0-6
Shamrock 99.5 1-0 4-2
D’Hanis 96 0-2 1-4
Crosbyton 92 0-1 2-4
Bruni 81 0-1 2-5
Rocksprings 65 0-2 1-3

Charlotte 137 0-1 1-5

After living and working in Rocksprings for 4 years, I would be surprised if they went 6-man. Made the playoffs with 1A-D2 enrollment in 2016. But, I have been surprised before. (They have won a playoff game the last 3 years in 11-man.) Going to, as always, depend on leadership, school board and community. Not sure this team (from what film I have seen) would fare any better in 6-man. I do not live in the area any longer -- I could be wrong.

D'hanis I know less about, but they are particular about transfers they accept and are very steeped in tradition. Pretty sure it would be easy for them to have 2A numbers (if they wanted to) by allowing/keeping a few more transfers...it's easy enough to do. Been real good at baseball at the 1A level and that MIGHT be a consideration. (I think they won a playoff game or two the last few years in 11-man football as well)

Cross Plains should seriously consider, but they are within 4 or 5 kids every alignment of going 2A or staying 1A. If they drop down into the 90s for a couple of alignments they should definitely go 6Man. It doesn't help that over the past 10 years they have been stuck in a district with Albany or Hamlin during their state run. They have made the playoffs in all of those years but only won 1 playoff game and have not won a district championship in 30 yrs. You look at the enrollment numbers and you can see the gap in kids. If you are lucky enough to get 4th in district then you get to play Muenster or Collinsville 1st round and lose by 60. I would really like to see a 1A 11-man. Not possible but they keep talking about adding a 7A, why not 1A 11-man. If CP goes six man they can get back to their old rivalries with Baird, Rising Star, Gorman and possibly Santa Anna.

In the past, there was a 1A-11 man division (would be small 2As now). 2005-06 school year was the last year with no division split (no Division 1 or 2). I coach in the state championship game for 1A-11 man (we lost by 1 point). Then UIL split 1A-11man into divisions 1 and 2 until the 2013-14 school year when they created 6A and moved all the As up one. 1A six man stayed 1A, 1A 11 man became 2 A, 2A to 3A, etc...

Here are links to the championship archives for each of those years where changed took place if anyone is interested:

So you want some of the bigger 6man schools to play 11man? or the 10 or so 1A schools that play 11man to have their own conference? I'm not following the 1A-11man thought.
My thought is, with a 75 kid difference in 2A DII it makes a huge difference. Even if it is a 50/50 boys to girls split that is close to 38 extra boys that could possibly play. Thats some of these 6-man school total enrollments. If you add another division (at this point what does it really matter) like a 1A 11-Man, schools would have a better chance of competing. Look at the 2AD2 playoff brackets over the last 5 years and ill bet you District champs and runner ups end up winning 85 to 90% of those first round games against the 3 and 4 teams. There are a ton of 1AD1 six man schools that have more boys come out to play than a lot of 2ADII schools. Say you go with enrollments of 75 - 125, that gives you 109 schools and then take away basketball only schools and that leaves you with 90 to 100 schools for a 1A 11-Man. You could even lower the top end to 110 and still have a pretty decent division. Its just and idea. Dont hate. Its a better idea than adding a 7A division. Those 6A schools have thousands of boys to choose from to get 11 solid players on both side.
