Behind the line pass interference??

I would say yes... It's basically a toss or shuttle pass.. Either way in order for it to be effective you have to have blocking for the back or receiver ahead of time

Keep in mind that Team B (defense on a scrimmage down) cannot block below the waist except for within three-yards each direction of the neutral zone. In other words, if the Team B player comes into the backfield four or more yards behind the LOS and blocks the receiver below the waist, you have a penalty. Not for DPI, but for IBBW.

fencewire,

You are absolutely right. I was going off the old rule which was based on the Rule 2-3-6 "blocking zone." Thank you for setting us straight.

Also, Rule 9-1-6-a(6) explicitly stats that a Team B player may not block below the waist against a player in a position to receive a backward pass. This would apply not only to those receivers, but also a pitch man on an option play.

7.3.9.a - Either Team A or Team B legally may interfere with opponents behind the neutral zone.

Does "interfere" mean you can tackle a player behind the LOS? If you think he has the ball or knows he doesnt have the ball?

To have pass interference 6 things have to happen---legal , forward, across line of scrimmage, untouched, must have contact, eligible receiver,

If you tackle him we might be looking at defensive holding, if he was a WR.

There is nothing wrong with tackling a player who you think might have the ball, think a RB and a good play fake. But wrapping up and tackling a WR who is waiting for a pass if you read it that well just step in front.. :)

Okay, two running backs line up 5 yards off the ball, the qb lines 5 yards behind them. One of the RB catches the snap and tosses the ball back to the QB. Two defenders come running in and the 2 RB block for just a second and then release. My question was if they block why not take them out of the play if they are behind the LOS so the QB cant dump the ball to them? But if the defenders take them out you are saying it will be defensive holding... even if they are still behind the LOS?

No, it COULD be holding. You can hit them, but you cannot wrap up and tackle them. "Defensive players may not use hands and arms to tackle, hold or otherwise illegally obstruct an opponent other than a runner."

Thats what I thought but just checking with the "Behigh the line pass interference??"
