Watched the game...that weren't no panther that ran over them dogs. Had to have been a tank.
The team I saw play against Calvert must have been Abbott's third team. It surely was not the one we watched tonight. WOW! Was Calvert that good early, or was Abbott that weak. Not important. The panther improvement just goes to show in vivid detail how a top-level coach can transition a mediocre group of boys into an amazingly improved football team. The only thing connecting tonight's Abbott team to the one against the Trojans was the football jersey. All else was unrecognizable.
The weaknesses they had against Calvert are now their strengths.
The QB couldn't throw a decent pass against the Trojan defense. Tonight he placed the ball anywhere he wanted, and with authority. Blocks were lazy and lethargic vs Calvert. Now they are quick and extended. The Backs were lumbering and one directional, now they stutter-step, cut and slip.
Best of all the panther defensive core is determined and dominating. Number 30 and whoever that big, strapping kid is was commanding the LOS.
I don't know how good BC is, but if Abbott faces Crowell next week, it will take Crowell's best game to prevail for a third state championship.
