So we're getting started with the pick 'em a week ahead this year, just so folks can start getting into the swing early. I'd planned on making big changes to the pick 'em this year, but that didn't pan out. Mostly because I never really settled on what I'd like to do, but also because I was so busy working on other things that I just left myself short on time to make any major changes to the underlying structure.

That said, one small change I made was to not require a spread on every game. Now for almost all games, you simply need to pick a winner. There are only six games where a spread is needed. This week it's simply taking the top six games where the teams playing have the lowest combined rankings. In future weeks I plan to change that so that it's either 1) completely random or 2) the six games with the lowest predicted spread by The Toy.

Good luck everyone and, please, let me know if y'all notice any issues as there was a lot of coding changes that needed to be made just to get that small change made.

Here's a preview of the games that were selected by The Toy this week:

All the private schools take the fun out of the pickem each week for me. Nothing against the schools. I just don’t know anything about them and really don’t want to know.

This was mentioned at least a few times last season, too, and I looked at several different ways of doing it this off-season but never could really decide on anything I thought made sense. Then I simply ran out of time to make any major changes anyways. It's still something I'm considering, but I just don't know a way to do it without just having two separate pick 'ems and, honestly, I'm just not a fan of running two different ones. That might change in the future, but it's not likely to change this year.

Wasn’t saying do away with them. Just feel like it would be better if they were separated. They can never be in a district together and never play each other in the playoffs. They don’t have to follow the same set of guidelines. Ive watched some private schools play. They are awesome just not the same category and I can’t keep up with 300 teams. lol
