1A Mascot Rebranding

As we wait for the season to begin and teams come together for this first week of practice (formerly known as two-a-days), I thought it would be refreshing to dive into a fun, crazy, and hypothetical topic. I can not take credit for this idea as I have seen this topic on another outlet, but I have never seen it broached on this website and thought it would be fun to do.

What if schools went through a rebranding type process with picking new mascots? Doing my best to keep them original, here are my suggestions for new mascots for some 1A schools.

What are your suggestions?

Along these lines, in his 1996 season preview “The Huntress Report” newsletter, Granger listed the Iredell Dragons team strength as “Mascot breaths fire.” So yes mascots matter!

Abbott Abbots
Apple Springs Apple Pickers
Borden County Dairy Farmers
Chester Chupacabras (we need this mascot in Texas)
Cotton Center Cottonclads (type of ship used to defend Texas in the Civil War)
Dell City Dust Devils
Eden Gardeners
Gholson Golems (you can’t go wrong with mythical creatures)
Gorman Goobers (highlights local economy and Mr. Peanut could be the mascot!)
Guthrie Ranch Hands (would probably be the most accurate mascot in the state)
High Island High Tides (Sandbars would be cool too…motto “we’re here to wreck your ship”)
Klondike Prospectors – or maybe Mushers (guy driving a dog sled)
Lefors Jedi (“May Lefors be with You”)
Hart Surgeons (masked man with a scalpel is kind of a scary mascot!)
Marfa Hipsters (they need to be the first to change mascots so they can say they did it before it was cool…I wanted to go with Phantasms in honor of the lights but this is better)
Morgan Freemen (best impersonators would have to be stadium announcers I would think)
Robert Lee Rabbit Twisters (local significance, unique with flare and anything is better than a castrated bull)
Sands Sandmen (best pregame entrance music in the state…“Enter the Sandmen!”)
Whitharral Windmills
Zephyr Blue Northers (after all that is what the town was named after as the story goes)

Happy Hippies? Well Happy is a little closer to Colorado than most of us, for all the Old Hippies...

Follett Funkadelics?

BTW we did do this on this site 4-5-6 years ago but it was not limited to 6-man/1A.

Grandfalls-Royalty Oilers
Imperial Storm Troopers (Buena Vista)
Hart Breakers
Sierra Blanca Mountaineers
Ropes Ropers
Rankin Leaves (This may be a stretch)
Woodson Carpenters

Sierra Blanca Mountain Men
Marfa Martians
Grandfalls- Royalty kings
Marathon Runners
Dell City Water Dogs
Robert Lee Generals
Groom Groomers
Garden City Gnomes
Balmorhea Divers
Nazareth Messiahs

I was thinking Robert Lee Rebels or Generals as well...but Rabbit Twisters is just so original. They had a semi-pro baseball team back in the 1930s and 40s that were very good call teh Rabbit Twisters

A rabbit twister so Im told was a type of trap you stuffed down a rabbit hole to catch/kill rabbits (jack rabbits mainly I believe as jack rabbits are abundant in that area)

Lohn Rangers is classic like Leman said, but I personally like the "Lohn Mowers" because it plays on people's the common confusion with Law near Tuscola.

High Island Tide
Rankin Spakins
Rochelle Riverrats
Miami Hurricane
Garden City Tomatoes
Water Valley Agua
Zephyr Zebras
Rising Star Achieve
Grady Cheese Graters
May Showers
Panther Creek Pink Panthers
Paint Creek Rollers
Novice Learners - if only it still existed! :(

Oglesby Ocelots, Cotton Center Cottonmouths, Chester Cheetas, Aspermont Asp, Spur Spurs, Penelope Prospectors, Happy Hippies...

The San Antonio Spurs name was chosen when the team was "rented" from Dallas (ABA's Chaparrals). Red McCombs, an auto dealer and real estate magnate was from Spur, Texas and hence the team became known as the Spurs. So actually, the team is named after the town.

Motley (county) Crue/Crew. Union Hill Yankee's. Jonesboro Jerry's (Hey, he's in the NFL HOF, Arkansas and all. I Like the town of Jonesboro).
