Windhorst - Throckmorton game

Six-man pro
Not a lot on another board (theoldcoach.rivals.com), but they are reporting that Windhorst and Throckmorton will play a game this fall that will be 1/2 played as 6 man and 1/2 played as 11 man ...

Any confirmation? I'm sure it's been done before, but how does one go about preparing for this contest ... both squads will have to adapt their style of play for the other school's game and how does that take away from your preparation for the remainder of the season?

I don't know about 1/2 6 man and 1/2 11 man, but back in the late 50's and early 60's there were several 1/2 6 man and 1/2 8 man games between O'Brien, Goree, Benjamin, Moran, and I think Vera.

Glad to see it! I tried to get a game like that set up between Throckmorton and Gorman a few years back and it almost happened...Gorman backed out of it...I guess Windhorst must be thinking about playing 6man in the future

Their enrollment for this last alignment was 159 and they are in DI 11-man football. But who knows? I can remember Rotan who is now 6 man being a class 2A school at one time. It would be interesting to see a game of this type.
On this website it shows Throdkmorton vs Throckmorton in week 5 http://www.sixmanfootball.com/schedule.php?t=1596&w=

I asked Coach Reed about a Sat. night game and he told me Windthorst would not play Sat. but possibly Thursday Night. If they played on Sat I know it would be the largest gate Windthorst ever had!!! If it's Thursday I'll See ya there!!

Winthrorst and Throckmorton have an outstanding relationship developed from years and years of great folks. For years the conversatons of eleven man and 6 man coaches alike always try to compare the two types of football and skills required to be successful at both. When I was at Gordon we played Revere Colo, a team from Canada, a team from Mississippi, and a 8-man team from Oregan, and those games brought with it memorable moments. Coach Campbell wasn't afraid to think outside the box in order to put his teams in postition to be successful and create opprotunity to better his kids as players and as men. The phone call to Coach Green was a very positive and Coach Green agreed that both of us had the opproutnity to fill a much needed void in our schedules. Being so close in proximity, we felt like both of us could help each other. He also was quick to recongnize the stigma that goes along with 11 man schools unfamiliarity with 6 man, and was willing to give his community and kids a taste of something that they would never have been offered otherwise in their lives.
Windthorst is not anywhere near the sixman cut off and is in no threat of doing so any time in the near future. This is nothing more than an opprotunity to play football and give football fans and kids a unique evening of football.
We will play 10 min quarters. Playing the first Half eleven man. At halftime they will chaulk the field move in the portable goal post and finish out the second half 6 man.

The reason it says Throckmorton vs Throckmorton is because when you fill out the teams that we will be playing on the website, Windthorst is not the list. Nothing like messing with Grangers toy and making it have to work a little bit. But maybe we will be ranked #6 again all year ;)

I went to Revere. We were Colorado State Champs in 1994,1996, and 1997. Came down and played Gordon in 1995 and lost 18-0. Anyways, due to the lack of 6-man schools in colorado, there are always plenty of 6man, vs. 8man games. Usually each team plays their type of offense and the other defense. We would play 6 on 6 when on offense and 8 against 8 on defense.
This Throck/Windthorst 1st half all 11 man and 2nd half all 6man sounds interesting. Im glad they are doing the 6 man half last!!!

If they didn't ,
it would be over at half!!!!!!!
BAM!!!!!!!!!!

i think this is genious, its good for six man. Throck will kill them if they have any depth. Glad u didnt tryStamford or Munday. that would have been tough. Stamford vs Munday will be the best 1a football game u will ever see in your lifetime next year. Any person who loves small school football should be there for that. I saw the game in jr high the year these seniors were in 8th grade it was unbelieveable. The Hutchinson kid from Stamford is unbelieveable. Best 1a qb ive ever seen. If his dad would have stayed atKnox City when they went Six man we would be talking about him as one of the best six man players ever.

Dee Paul fom Munday is a GREAT IA athlete. He is the second best football player in the big country. The qb from Stamford is better no doubt. Better on defense too. Im not so sure fully healthy he's not faster. i know he's tougher
