I believe it is Freddy's to lose. It is unfortunate that Brenham and Freddy are both on the same side of the bracket, they might be the two best teams in DII. Some of the northern teams look like they might be pretty good too! It looks like we might have some solid matchups in the playoffs.

Yeah that does stink that they are both in the same bracket, should make for a great semifinal(I think that is when they would meet) game if both teams make it. I think most of the first round games will be kind of one sided, but the second week and on should be some good football!

cougar- I agree, on paper it looks like alot of mismatches in the first round, although there 2 or 3 first round matchups that appear to have evenly matched teams. I think the matchup between Town East and Bellville Faith is going to be a toss-up game. It should be worth the price of admission to see.

It all depends on whose health lasts the longest...that's what 6man football is all about when it comes down to the playoffs

Coach, you're probably right. But I think that the bubonic plague could spread through Fredericksburg and Heritage would still be healthy enough to win the title.

And I also know there are a number of teams, including yours, that insist that we play the games anyway. And once the ball is kicked and the clock starts, crazy things have been known to happen.

Seems I remember hearing a story about a kid named Dave that was a pretty solid underdog to a big guy named Goliath. It happens ... perhaps Goliath wins if it's a best of five series, but on any given day ... and I think that day, Dave won.

That's exactly who I am named after lifegate!
And the health comment was mainly referring to some of the other schools who have some incredible players and who could give Freddy a run for their money as long as those incredible players remained uninjured.
Of course we need to play the game..how else will Heritage Classical Academy in Amarillo dethrone the "other HCA"? :D
Gotta love sixman!

I pray that God grants ALL of the playoff teams health and an injury-free postseason!

I have heard that both Dallas Tyler Street and Christway have some speed...however they both have to go through a couple of strong teams from District 1. I really wish that District 1 and 2 weren't having to face off against each other in these early rounds of the playoffs...some good teams are going to have to go home early. But, I guess that's the nature of the beast, right?
And you are correct, Freddy remains the champ until they are beaten.

You could say that again. Might have made a little more sense to pair up District 1 and District 3 (like D1 1st v D3 4th...D1 2nd v D3 3rd) just for logistics. I've had to take out a 2nd on my house to get my team to Amarillo. :) Looking forward to it Coach BTW.

Doesn't make a lot of sense in these economic times to have a Eastern Team driving to a Northwestern team (Fulton to Amarillo), a Northern team to a Southern team (WF Christian to Brenham), another Southern team to another Northern Team (Houston TC to WF Notre Dame), and an team from El Paso meeting a team from Dallas in Garden City.

But hey the kids are going to never forget these road trips, and TAPPS has done a great job of getting a lot of kids in to experience the feel of the playoffs and a lot of schools another chance to succeed, so all is right to me.

Why is everybody complaining about the trips. When Chapel made our three runs in the 98-00, we had Abilene Chritian, Oak Trail Academy(granberry), Happy Hill Academy, and Amarillo Trinty (now Amarillo Arbor). That was just our district, then for pre-district games our coach tried to match us with the best, playing Rule #2 (in Midland), Whitharrel (at their place) and I can't even begin to count the trips tp Lazzbuddie, and Three Way.

This is what happens when we play sixman football. I loved every minute of traveking with the football teammates. That is what makes going to a smaller school better then a boring 4A and 5A.

jc_30 I believe that we were just trying to figure out the logic in it...nobody said that it isn't fun to travel (in fact hanging out with my athletes is the highlight of my day). As an athletic director at a small Christian school money is always tight and the administration and parents are ALWAYS looking for ways to spend less...especially in these times of economic recession. Of course, if we could afford a nice tour bus like El Paso instead of a Blue Bird school bus I am sure it would help the trip go a little smoother :D

I can remember sitting in several years of District Presidents meetings during the TAPPS annual meetings in San Antonio.

Every year, the question of having "true regionals" (ala UIL, on a geographic basis) vs. separating the #1 and #2 team in each district so that they cannot have a rematch until the state finals is brought up.

Reason for the TAPPS format is that often, the best teams (especially in 1A, 2A) are in the same district and to try and get the best matchups for state and finals, you have to separate those teams. And if it's not that way, well, the cream tends to rise to the top. In true regionals, you'll have those district rematches as early as the second round of the playoffs.

But there is a problem, especially in times of high fuel prices and economic uncertainty that hits small schools hard -- travel costs and (in non-football sports) long weeknight road trips. Last year, our boys (Seguin Lifegate) finished 2nd or 3rd in the basketball district ... here's where our travels went ... to Lubbock (Saturday), to Fort Worth (Tuesday) and to Dallas (regional finals, Saturday). We did do an overnight on the Saturday games, I'd guess it cost us in excess of $1000 in van rental, gas, and hotel rooms for those three games. In volleyball this year, one of the San Antonio schools took a trip to Amarillo for a Tuesday night volleyball match. And in all those cases, I'll tell you, those schools brought very few fans along for the ride. So, the gate is pretty sparse for a playoff game (and one heck of a home team advantage if you can get a decent, polite but slightly rowdy, noisy crowd to root for the home team ... but hey, we won those games in Lubbock and Fort Worth ... and neither was close).

That might reopen the "true regional" discussion ... as well as another "problem." With the movement of a number of former TAPPS 1A/2A schools in the DFW area to TCAF, one of the southern district champions (for example, in 1A, District 4 .... which includes schools in San Antonio, San Marcos and Seguin) has to play their regional in DALLAS as opposed to San Antonio or Houston. Part of me says that if the DFW area schools are choosing to play in another league, maybe TAPPS needs to serve its south and central Texas member schools by moving one of those regionals in Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin or San Antonio.

But that's a fight for another day.

Well the poll is over. Most people say that somebody other than the top three teams will win the state title, but in my opinion I don't see that happening. I think the winner of the Freddy/Brenham game(if they both make it that far), will go on to win the state title.

But that is just my opinion.

Lifegate, maybe the question should be, why are a number of smaller schools in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area switching away from TAPPS to this other league? If TAPPS was not losing these schools then you would not have to play a regional in the Dallas area.

Maybe that is the question; but basically, what I'm saying is that if the DFW area is losing schools to other organizations, I wonder why schools in south and central Texas are travelling up to DFW area for regionals which should be placed where the schools THAT DO SUPPORT TAPPS are based. Or maybe those schools in the DFW that are part of TAPPS need to do a better job in encouraging schools to rejoin or remain in the organization.

And yes, that's an issue that the TAPPS leadership SHOULD be thinking about (why schools are leaving or choosing another league) ... but that's an issue for somebody else's pay grade.
