Who should WD play?

Figured we should list who White Deer should play, not amazing athletes but will probablly be like a Nazareth. So I say they should schedule Naz to compare, McLean because of close distance, Groom because they are competitve, etc. here is my list of who I believe they should play.

1.Groom
2.McLean
3.Nazareth
4.Lefors
5.Turkey Valley
6.Follet
7.Happy
8.Miami
9.Water Valley
10. Throckmorton

Play the first two to get adjusted, test the waters at Naz, get an easier one after that, then really say how you are stacked up against good teams. Then play two good teams but that aren't amazing (Happy, Miami), then get in a good athletic team that isn't overly aggressive, and then play the beaast to see if you are prepared.

I would play at least 1 private school and not Throckmorton at all...

I would play Amarillo Holy Cross and Lubbock Christ the King...those two game should go well for White Deer and help build the program and confidence with the kids and the community

Probably a lot of their schedule will be based on who has games available, not who they "should play." And although White Deer has some football familiarity, they probably shouldn't jump in the deep end of the six-man pool.

I always tell the story of setting up our initial schedule at Seguin Lifegate back in 2003. We were open for the first game of the season and one day, the phone rings. It's my good friend, Beck Brydon, HFC at Austin Regents, then the two-time TAPPS state champion (and would be three time champion that year, the last year they played six-man).

Beck is looking for a Week zero opponent at his place and would we be interested in playing?

I laugh and kindly decline his generous offer, because I think if I had scheduled the game two things would happen. First, it might be both the first and last game of Lifegate football and secondly and as I noted to Beck, I was seriously concerned about my personal liability under the child endangerment statutes in the state of Texas.

I wouldn't put a first year team against Throck, Valley, or WV.
Me either.
They need a couple homeschool teams
at least!
And then fill in with those easy teams in the East.

I seriously doubt that being in between Panhandle and Pamp, Whit Der would get teams from the East. I agree with oneday , I would try and get Amarillo Holy Cross, Plainview Christian, Lubbock CTK and some others in their general area.

Weeks 7 thru 10 will be a take who you can get situation. That's district for most UIL schools, so the only way you might get one is if it is one of TWO bye weeks, which very few teams have more than one. Otherwise, most of their schedules will most likely be full. I don't understand why you would want to play an outlaw schedule...... what if it turns out that you are pretty good. Rochelle and Savoy both made the playoffs in their first year.........

Remember, 2013 is the second year of the alignment cycle. It is usually pretty difficult to get into a district during that off-year, usually only happens when a school drops football/closes and another school is able to assume that school's schedule.

The downside is, of course, now White Deer's crowded-field opponents now may have an extra open date to deal with ...

And there is nothing worse for a team to deal with than a week 10 open date ... except for a week 10 non-district opponent. Lots of things can happen, and most of them are bad.

That's true, I guess they are too far away to take over Waxahachie's schedule. You would think that UIL would be able to add them to a district and re-do the schedules for 1 district.
