When adults act like kids!

JH PACER COACH

11-man fan
A word of advice to all schools, administrators, and coaching staffs. Please be ever so cautious when choosing people to run the chains and down marker for your games. We were playing at a school last night whose chain crew looked to be adult, grown men, but in actuality acted more along the lines of 10-12 year olds. (Sorry, no disrespect to the 10-12 year old age group.)
From before the kickoff, while the teams were lined up on their sidelines waiting for prayer and the national anthem, these so called men are teasing and taunting our boys, asking if they were scared and did they really want to play the game, when our boys would not respond they kept on by asking for their autographs. Our boys were a little intimidated but did not respond, just kept looking away. Then to add to our frustration through the game we would be calling a play or giving direction to our kicker on which way to kick, and the one man would yell to the boys on the field what we were planning on doing.
I have to ask,is this normal? If so, we sure have come a long way, and unfortunately the wrong way. Thank you for your patience. My rant is over.

As the visiting coach, you have the option of asking for a replacement on the chain gang. The officials will stop the game until it happens.

Thanks for the response. We did talk to the ref on our sideline about this and he told us he would take care of it, and he did talk to them. But they seemed to be very friendly with one another as they talked and seemingly were laughing about it.
Also, is there only 1 organization for refs, that being TASO? Or are there others? I have been at games this year were the refs have the TASO logo on their uniforms, and to some games were they might be without the logo. And lets just say that it seems that the refs without the logo could be very questionable.

There are some non-taso football officals groups, but honestly with a couple few exceptions (Coach Kidwell in FW runs one I'd use), you will always do best with a TASO chapter.

I remember a playoff game where the home team obtained a.non-TASO group. They showed up only a couple minutes before kickoff and brought their own chain crew, who held the.sticks 3 feet off the ground.

If the "adults" want to play with the kids let them. Have the players on the sideline stand on the chains when they try to move them and stand in their way in front where their moving the chains. Guaranteed to get the officials attention. A chance to explain to them. If this doesn't stop we don't stop.
Just kidding. This distracts from your ability to coach the game and the players focus (as intended).
Raise hell with the officials immediately. Insist on a new chain gang. Threaten to stop playing until it's done.
I've never seen such. If the home coach allows it to happen he's a sad excuse for a coach.

Had a game a few years ago where when I would call a play one of the chain crew would pull out his phone and text or call someone. I didn't notice it during the game but one of the parents told me about it. I look at the game film and it was true. Sure enough we go back there for a playoff game and get the same guys running chains so before the game starts I called them over and explained that if I saw a phone come out that their wives and kids would weep when they saw what I had done to their bodies. Problem solved.

Need to change the title of this topic to " When adults act like idiots" comparing them to kid is demeaning to children...........
