West D2

This year it seems like no one is talking about D2 on the West side....Balmorhea has done well...but what are the surprise teams or cool stories lines out West in D2?

I see Highland and Blackwell heading for an epic showdown...

Can Grandfalls play with Balmorhea in the final week of the reg. season?

What else is out there???

Keep an eye out for Petersburg! Missed a couple starters for the first couple of games this season due to injuries and managed to be 3-1 to this point. All the starters are back now and they have a bye week after a well earned win against Guthrie. They were picked to finish 3rd in their district behind Motley County and Southland but the road seems bright. Garza is a stud runningback and he's back! I have them winning their district and making some noise in the playoffs!

I will say they have a good chance to win their dis. But the win over Guthrie was a lucky one even with Landon Roberts hurt in the 2nd Guthrie almost pulled off the win if the WR handent fumbled on the 5 yard line. The Buffaloes are a good team but I don't see them making it past Valley or even Guthrie a second time.

And I completely agree with you. If Landon Roberts were playing Petersburg most likely would've lost that game by a couple touchdowns. But it was good for the team to battle back down a couple touchdowns at halftime. They should win their district and win the first round of playoffs as well. If they meet valley in the second round then I agree it would be very tough to come out with a win. A miracle would have to happen. I'm excited to see what this team can do for the remainder of this season. Luckily they only have one senior on the whole entire team so they'll get plenty of experience and return 5 starters on both sides of the ball next year.

Lefors looks good. However, the loser between them and Follett will have to play Valley. Valley will be the team out of district 2 to beat. However, Lefors has not played the toughest schedule to this point. Friday night will a good measure as they play McLean. Regardless, I see the winners of these two districts playing in the regional round.

Balmorhea's win over Garden City is pretty impressive to me. It looks, at this early point in the season, like the West will boil down to them and Valley. Not to discount the likes of Follett, Motley County, Guthrie, Amherst, Petersburg or Highland but those two look like the cream of the crop in the West. I, too, am interested in the Blackwell/Highland tilt to determine the winner of District 7.

Were they still in the West they would certainly be in the mix with Valley and Balmorhea. I consider them to be the best of Region 3 so, as it sits, they will most likely have to duke it out with the survivor of the Calvert/Richland Springs slug-fest in the semi-finals. Not exactly an enviable task but it is what it is. Good luck the rest of the way.
