Water Valley Wildcats

Any guesses as to where this one will be played? Last time we played Ira in the playoffs was in 2011 in Blackwell. I remember that Morris kid (older one, I think his name was Lance?) running all over us that night. I could go for a trip up to Blackwell.

Nevermind, I see that it WILL be at Blackwell.

Lance Morris is the GOAT of Ira football, held the nation’s all-time rushing record for a few hours before Derrick Henry took it from him.🤯 Still currently holds the Texas record.

Crazier thing is his little brother was just as good (Logan) if not better but no chance at chasing the record as they shared the backfield for 2 years, which only begs to question if Lance could of also had even more yardage.

Wow, just... wow! The WV has had some good teams before, namely the 1946, 1978, 2013, and 2021 groups, but this team, THIS TEAM, is the first to ever win three playoff games in a season. Congratulations on making the Semi-Finals to the coaching staff and these kids; along with everyone else involved with the team from the parents, cheerleaders, trainers, and the band to the faculty and administration. To some schools out there three playoff wins is old hat, nothing to get too excited about but I, for one, am very excited for this team.

Seems like they have been building momentum all season long and are peaking at just the right time. They'll have to be to get past the winner of Borden County/Whiteface but, one thing is for sure, they'll be bringin' it and that's been enough to outscore their playoff opposition 190 - 70 thus far.

2pm tomorrow can't get here soon enough.

Made a long trip to see the WV|RL game last night. It was worth the drive and the delayed start. Spending some quality time with my aging mother and reminiscing with old and new stories. She graduated from Water Valley in 1964. I had 3 Uncles that graduated in 63, 77, 80, and another that would have in 1966 but left early to join Navy. later returned and graduated from Angelo State University. 3 Aunts 74, 79, and 81. It was 1988 for me. Brother, Sister and too many cousins to count in the 90’s and probably the last in the early 2000’s. No extended family attending anymore but always nice to return for a visit. Going thru some old annuals and thought I would share a picture. Back when there was 1 classification and 2nd place starts basketball….lol

In 1979 when this picture was taken the old football field actually ran North and South parallel to Highway 87. Visitors got the pleasure of sitting on the East side facing the sun sitting in the West. I can assure you I was at all these home guys watching the high school players that were my hero’s at a time I was 9 years old. 1 strand cable fencing around the field with not a parking spot available. Dim lighting at best with a shadow here and there when a bulb blew out. Old trucks backed up with tailgates down watching the game. Cool stuff! Now I wouldn’t have been intently because all available elementary age kids and some junior high youngsters would have had our own ball playing our own game on practice field directly behind the home stands. Tackle game I assure you, taking occasional breaks to go get a score update. We always stopped and watched the last few minutes of sanctioned game best I remember. The good old days. Had to share.

I can relate with the heritage to a school my grandmother and brothers went to Aquilla my mom, dad and uncles and aunts all went to Aquilla. Myself and siblings went there as well. My kids and nephews as well as many cousins along the way and now I currently have 4 grandkids attending Aquilla.
