Union Hill and Gordon

I have seen a lot of six man football. Public and private. Can someone tell me how UH made it this far. Yes I am aware Gordon is a powerhouse and I have seen them play 3 times the last 2 years. They are stacked and have been. I have not seen UH. This game is not about having athletes. This is poor execution and poor tackling. Snaps are all off, open field tackling is horrible. Secondary coverage with basic 2 receivers on 8’s and both safety’s on the same receiver. Am I missing something? I am by no means knocking UH. They have obviously earned the right to be where they are! Just very difficult to understand. Congratulations to both teams! Very few that are still playing and that says alot for both programs.

Union hill played great against aquilla. I think maybe their nerves got to them or they knew it was hopeless. Over at halftime

I get the nerves. Big game and a lot on the line. David and goliath but u get the nerves out after at least the first 2 drives. Even being down by 30-40 still the same mistakes and at that point its not about winning but surviving.

You do know that Gordon has 4 division 1 athletes right? Do you really think any team has much of a chance open field tackling that team?

I know about the Reeds but where are these other two D1 athletes committed to and who are they? Genuinely asking. If this is true, impressive Jayton beat four D1 athletes in basketball last year

#1 and #6 received offers for track and field i believe. I wish they could play jayton in football. I don’t think it would be close, however.

I think Dandy Don said, If what if’s were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas. What if UH had of been playing any other 6-man team in the nation other than Gordon? We will never know. Gordon is out of this world. I have seen some good teams since I started watching in 2012 but no one with the team speed I saw tonight. I’m glad I went and I strongly support THE BIG BAD BULLDOGS and Gordon is the only high school 6-man team in the world that can argue with that at this moment. We will see what Rankin says after December 17th. No excuses. When you get 45ed, it is obvious the best team won. Good luck and Best wishes to Gordon and Rankin on the 17th as well as Jayton and Richland Springs. I’m not signing off. I still have things to say from The Oldfolks Home.

I’ve watched plenty of Gordon games, and I think there are a few different factors that compound on each other to make them pretty much unbeatable.

There’s the talent, which is obvious and what makes all the other things i’m going to list possible. #2 and #3 are hard to tackle in the open field. One guy stands probably a 20% chance of bringing them down one on one. More likely he will either be made to miss entirely or he will be trampled/drug until he get passed by. You need at least two guys to reliably tackle either of them.

The play calling is great and often overlooked.

They score in 1-3 plays most drives, this leads to very few opportunities for penalties, fumbles, interceptions, dropped snaps. The other team on the contrary, while its not impossible to move the ball, must run 10-15 plays at least to get close to the goal line. This is so many opportunities for mistakes that they are bound to happen, and you can bet Gordon stays ready to capitalize on these mistakes.

This also wears teams down incredibly fast while Gordon stays relatively fresh, which is compounded by the fact that the second string defense is no pushover. They can hold their own and let the starters rest even more while they get experience.

Most of the starters are fast as hell. I estimate Ry Reed’s 40 yard dash at 4.3-4.4 (based on his performance in the 100m dash), which is NFL speed. Stryker is also extremely fast. The rest of the team is as fast as most team’s studs. Speed dominates in 6 man.

All that said, there are 10 seniors on the roster. I do not think they win state next year.
