Throckmorton/Knox City matchup Upset???

I'm with rainjack on the East/West thing. Teams that are already playing basketball in the West could easily be representing the East in the Championship game if not for the geographical situation. I believe Sands, Rankin or Water Valley (don't start with me) could all beat Throckmorton (clearly the class of the East) head-to-head. Notice something about all three of those teams? All three of them were vanquished by the soon-to-be-crowned State Champion, Ira Bulldogs. Sorry rainjack, I know you believe in the Valley Patriots but, after watching Lance Morris (#12) run roughshod over the Wildcats, I don't think anyone beats Ira. Although I do believe Valley would beat T-Rock in the Championship game too.

Ira has to get past a pretty good Borden County team and Valley has to take care of a Meadow team that has proven to be the Patriots' Achilles heel in the recent past.

If those two scenarios play out, then we can have this conversation some time Saturday evening.

I do think Throck's road to Abilene is much, much smoother than Ira's, BC's, Valley's or Meadow's.

But if you want to see some excellent running backs - all you need to do is watch some Valley game film - we've got 4 kids that are a coach's worst nightmare. Oddly enough, you can find the state's best rush defense on the same film.

If anyone is going to stay with Valley - They better master the passing game. It's not going to happen on the ground.

Speaking of Meadow and Valley, I remember the 2008 playoff game between those two at Crosbyton. The final score was somewhere in the vicinity of Meadow 93 Valley 57. The third quarter took almost an hour by itself because it was nothing but long run after long run by both team with neither defense able to make any sort of stop. That was when Meadow had Rico Rocha running the ball as well. Valley had beaten Meadow in the regular season that year and Meadow got revenge in the playoffs before running into and losing to Follett.

Not trying to start any crap;
just wondering
what contributes the most to the weaknesses in the east?
And,
where is the W/E dividing line?
I haven't given it much thought.

I think it's just cyclical. I do think, though, that the coaching talent is more concentrated in the west.

I dont think Valley's D has been tested this year with a powerhouse running team yet just my opinion

Meadow is a big running team. We'll see how it goes this Friday.
Rankin 45'd Meadow but yes we will see how it goes...

Grady2012, I have no dogs in this race lol. I don't follow or have any ties to either of these 2 teams. It was me that predicted that the first meeting would be closer than the spread, and it sure was. Also I know the team that May is and they put 36 points up on T-rock and lost by 30. So I'm not so convinced about the good defense. Knox City is a considerably better team than May, no offense May fans, but they are. T- Rock may well win, but I will predict a closer game than the last one. KC has seen T-Rock already and know what it will take to compete at the higher level. And if you will read my first post, I said that an upset could occur, not that it will. I do believe that it will be a competitive game.

I hear you rainjack but I'm telling you, that Morris kid is the real deal. Water Valley had a great defense and he shredded us like no one else; remember that Water Valley had faced and beaten Sands and Rankin too. One other thing, WV had a stable of pretty good running backs as well (Glass, Tamplain, Marschall, Latham) and, though Ira didn't exactly stop them, they did slow them down enough to get the win. I think Ira gets by Borden County in a tough one and beats Valley in an equally tough slobberknocker. After beating Sands, Water Valley, Borden County and Valley, Throckmorton will seem a bit anticlimactic. But hell, what do I know? I picked Water Valley over Ira by 14.

Do enrollment cycles not happen in the west?
How do you measure coaching talent?

Yes they happen all the time, which is precisely why I said that it's just cyclical.

Coaching talent was an opinion. You were asking for reasons - I gave you my opinions.

I had WV going to the semi's. They ruined my bracket.

If rumors are accurate, Ira has a RB that is hurt.

They ruined your bracket and the running back from Ira ruined my season. The kid from Ira that got hurt was #24 and, while he's pretty good, he's not the kid that devistated the Wildcat defense. That was #12, Lance Morris. Remember that number, I think you'll see a lot of it.

We'll see who's still playing come Sunday morning. Then I might start being worried about #12. But there's a bunch of football to be played between now and then.

True, Borden County is no pushover and Meadow always gives Valley all they can handle (as you pointed out) but I still think it's Ira and Valley for the right to beat up on T-Rock. Of course, that's just my opinion. Please don't beat up on me intellectually, Goob. He's probably still spinning from the circles.

Well, there you go. The Football Gods have spoken. I stand corrected, you and Goob are right because your collective IQs match your number of posts.
