The Baylor Bears

Heck of a comeback... Score posted on SCORES CENTRAL as: Waco Baylor 61, Fort Worth TCU 58

We just about gave up at 58-37 ... all of a sudden I went back in the room and it was 58-57 (before the tying PAT). Shoulda punted the ball, TCU.

Guess you weren't at any of these games:

1996 Gordon v Whitharral
2003 Richland Springs v Strawn
or 2001 Richland Springs v Woodson

Those 3 games are the best games I have ever seen

Throw your 3rd interception of the year for a pick six to go down by 21 58-37 @ 11:38 in the 4th. Never led.
TCU fans chanting TCU, TCU, in your new house. RUN the ball every play up the middle until you score. Announcer says I think TCU just got punched in the face. Stop em'. 92 yards, 1:29. 58-51. Stop em' again.
91 yards 59 seconds. Tied. Stop em again. Run the ball to the 11. Kick field goal as time expires.
Students and fans rush field.
Excuse my exuberance, been a Baylor fan since the 60's, a lot of frustrating years.

Yes, I was at the 03 RS-Strawn game with Gordon Wood in the booth for one of the last games he ever saw and called amazing (Granger was in the booth too). Best 6-man game I've ever seen. I rushed the field with my wife and daughter, congratulated Coach Lee and Johnny Parsons among others. Although Strawn-RS in Hico in the 08 playoff's comes close.
Guess I should qualify my statement as best 11 man comeback I've ever seen.

Patterson couldn't make up his mind........ called 2 timeouts trying to decide..........

Fort Worth Star Telegram said Patterson was actually considering a fake punt. The reporter said they couldn't of stopped Baylor if they had pinned them at the 5. His defense had been on the field for 100 plays at that point.

I started dozing at half time. Watched the third with one eye half open. When Petty threw the pick six to make it 58-37. I sat up and thought of turning it off. But TCU had two personal fouls on the play and had to kick off from their 10. And the frog fans started their chant. So I watched Baylor run it back to the 45.
Then 4 straight runs up the gut on a gassed defense into the endzone.
Looks like the double personal fouls and chanting was just what the Bears needed to wake up too.

One last post on this thread. Even the wife got a laugh out of this.
Page 10 of the Star Telegram, page wide headline "Patterson 'threatened" by Baylor player".
After the game "a Baylor player approached Patterson and continued to talk after Patterson turned away. (DC) Bennett stepped in to defuse the situation. Patterson said the "threats" centered on his postgame rant last season after TCU's 41-38 loss to Baylor. Patterson said he apologized to Baylor coach Art Briles before Saturday's game."
OMGoodness, wife was right this is funny. Maybe he should have apologized to the players and they wouldn't have BEAT his team.

Worst part of watching a Baylor game these days? The game NEVER seems to end. Both teams have to throw the ball a million times and goes on and on and on...

I remember back in the day when I was at a football camp at WT. This kid was wearing a Baylor hat and this is when Baylor was terrible! Everybody gave that kid heck saying Baylor sucks and nobody likes Baylor. I just wonder how many of those guys are now on the bandwagon for Baylor? It's awesome to see Baylor were they are now, they went from bottom feeder to top dog in the State. You really have to give a lot of credit to Art Briles though, who I believe is the best coach in college football. A lot of coaches can go to tradition rich programs and win championships, but Briles has done it at were most coaches called Baylor a coaching graveyard. I just hope he stays there until they win a national championship! Also for those people who say Baylor is just a passing team, they lead the big12 in rushing last year. I believe they are also leading it this year. Shock Linwood is a beast for Baylor and I don't think he gets enough credit he deserves! I just hope the college playoff committee doesn't screw them out of the playoffs!

Here is "the kick" over and over with fan reaction. I can see myself in many of those.

Great game. Winning sure beats the heck out of losing.

Remember Jim Rome's rant about scrubby little Baylor?

At least he fessed up and ate crow.
"And I can't believe I'm about to say this but...the center of the sports world is Central Texas. Yeah I said it. And I said it because Baylor U is killing it....Not only do they belong in the Big 12, they're running the Big 12" ...Jim Rome

First of all, you can never ever ever ever count Art Briles out. I was beginning to wonder, but thrilled by the outcome. Sic 'em!

I think Patterson's going for it on 4th down was a horrible multi-million dollar decision. Multi-million dollar because it could cost them a chance at a national championship or at least a top 4 finish. Now, why was it such a bad decision? Because Baylors kicker statistically isn't very good. He was only 44% on the year for the 28 yd kick. Unfortunately hind sight is 20-20. He would have been a hero if he made it and questioned if he punted it and they didn't stop them

Now for my opinion. What an awesome game between a great defensive mind (Patterson) and a great offensive mind (Briles). It should go down as one of the great games. Going for it on 4th was a Briles or even a Stoops move,,not a Patterson move. He made it worse by taking the 2 time outs to allow Baylor to be ready and expect it.
