Six-man pro
UPDATED 03/27
Somebody asked me if I had an idea on how many high school teams were playing six-man football.
So, I took a look at my list and I think I have a somewhat accurate count. Now, remember, schools drop in and drop out (and some show up for a game or two, never to be heard from again). This includes varsity teams and those playing primarily a JV schedule (which Granger and I still count as a varsity team, because once in awhile, they end up playing a varsity team; Tioga or Gholson would be examples).
It doesn't include second teams (junior varsity where there is a varsity team) or junior high teams.
No league affiliation:
Charter Schools - 3
Home School Groups - 6
Private Schools - 2
Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS):
TAPPS does not admit charter/public schools or home school groups)
Non-district (independent) Private Schools -4
District Private Schools - 59
Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship (TCAF)
Non-district (independent) Private Schools - 1
District Private Schools - 14
District Charter Schools 1
Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL):
(TCAL does admit charter schools and home school groups)
Non-district (independent) Private Schools - 1
District Private Schools - 17
District Charter Schools - 8
District Home School Groups - 15
University Interscholastic League:
(UIL admits only public and charter schools; with two exceptions [5A]):
Non-district (independent) Public Schools - 4
Non-district (independent) Charter Schools - 1
District Public Schools - 135
District Charter Schools - 2
Total count is 273 schools; assuming 15 kids per team, that's 4,095 varsity players.
Public Schools - 135
Private Schools - 98
Home School Groups - 21
Charter Schools - 15
