Teacher/Coach Jobs

If a school really wants a HS Math or Science or Spanish teacher,
why don't they just come right out and say it,
instead of saying they need a coach first?
Wouldn't it weed out a lot of applicants
that aren't qualified?
Of course it would.

Do computer companies advertise for a janitor
then say,
"Oh by the way, you need to be a programmer too."
Just wondering.

It is because they can find a coach a whole lot easier than a good teacher. I have never seen as many teaching jobs open up as this year.

When I took an alternative certification teaching course several years back, the first speaker was an asst. admin. of one of the DFW suburban districts. She told us that among the keys into getting a teaching job was the ability to be a coach.

Since UIL/TEA requires all coaches to be full-time employees of the district, the first priority of a district is to fill all the coaches positions ... of course, if a specific subject (ie, math or science) is needed, a coach who can teach those subjects is going to have a leg up over someone who can teach those subjects but is not a coach.

Here is something else I would do,
if I was a school trying to attract personnel
of high moral fiber:
I would post a job saying it's Coach/Math ONLY,
(for example)
then hire someone who wasn't Math certified
to fill the coach job then
post repeatedly for a Math ONLY/Coach job
while only actually filling the coaching spot.
Several job posts later
you have plenty of PE
and no Math.
jus sayin'.
