A lot of games to be played first but just based on the current rankings the games would be Happy vs Jonesboro and Richland Springs vs Balmorhea? I was looking at the UIL playoff brackets the other day and need to look again before I get my foot all the way in my mouth and comment without knowing.
This year's district realignment may have thrown me for a loop.
Oh what the heck. In DII, winner of D9 could eventually face the winner of D13 in the state semi?
That could be Crowell vs Richland Springs? What? Huh? My med's have quit working.
Crowell is in the East now?
I've never been to Crowell itself. But I've been close by. It's not in East Texas. Not a pine tree for about a couple of hundred miles. Then again I've never thought of Richland Springs as East Texas.

Crowell should not be in the East bracket. But they are. Motley County was in the East last alignment, and they are a good bit west of Crowell. UIL is not the go to source for Texas geography.

That would be incorrect. Anything east of 100 degrees west latitude is East Texas. Or...anywhere with an average relative humidity of more than 25%.

According to google maps the geographical center of Texas is in Winters, Tx.
Actually I am wrong, There is a Heart of Texas Roadside Park near Winchell, Texas

What is confusing is that the Dallas Cowboys are in the NFC East. University of Texas and Texas Tech are in the Big 12 when there is only 10 schools.

Winters is East Texas. Google doesn't know everything. It's run by yankees in Palo Alto California.

Ok I'm roped into this, first off Winters, is not East Texas...

I have always held that Stephenville is kind of on the border of what would be considered East and West with Stephenville being in West...I think HWY 281 is the most logical border if you were splitting the state East and West as culture, cities, and topography starts to change the farther you go either side of that HWY


But people out around Marfa have different ideas of what West Texas is...

I blame Amon G Carter for my (mis?) conception. I think I've read he didn't care for the term "Cowtown" but I grew up reading the sports page in his Fort Worth Star Telegram with the caption above the title of "Where the West Begins".
I've always gone with the I-35 concept too. But it's not a straight line and and to me ends at San Marcos, there the "East" angle South East through Luling, Victoria, etc. But what about the stretch(es) of I-35 between Hillsboro and Denton? Is I-35 W in the West or is it the dividing line. Is I-35 E in the East or is IT the dividing line?
I guess it's to each his own. How do you define it? The 100th parallel? North/South from the geographical center of the state? I-35, Highway 281 or 16? Where the piney woods stop? Where the oaks and cedars stop? I never thought of Strawn as truly West Texas. That was out west of Breckenridge or Abilene when you get to nothing but mesquite or no trees at all.

Or you can use the BBQ method for determining west and east........ West tx BBQ is usually cooked over direct mesquite coals while East tx BBQ is over indirect heat using pecan oak or mesquite and is usually cooked low & slow. The tourist trap known as Cooper's BBQ would be considered west Texas style......
