State Games

Watch 2005 Throckmorton, and RS with TE. Time always makes it seem like the "older" teams couldn't compete. Those teams would match up very well and imo it would be a good game. Gordon's team is a very very great team. RS with TE lost one game in TE's 4 year tenure, and that was to 2005 Throckmorton. Gordon has lost one game in their's. Very similar and would be interesting
I could be totally wrong of course, but i figured RS with Tyler Ethridge would be on par with Benjamin with Rigdon. And i do think gordon would have made short work of that Benjamin team.

Except you could argue that Gordon has 3 "TE" type players plus a more talented supporting cast. Those three that Gordon has are faster than TE was. Gordon would eat those RS teams alive. How many gold medalist sprinters are on this Gordon squad... 6-7? Not to mention the fastest player to ever play the game. Gordon is faster than any team in history but also extremely physical and just a well oiled machine.

Not trying to ruffle your feathers. Just comparing. There have been 6man players run track at Tech. Ryan Atkins from Highland, and Albert Booker from Trent if I remember correctly. If you think RS or 2005 Throck didnt have size you're wrong. Also TE was plenty fast. And also had an amazing supporting cast. Also I never said Gordon wouldnt win. Was just bringing up teams before the split and when it started...

To say that mid 2000s RS could compete with 2025 Gordon would also mean there were other teams in the mid 2000s that could at least come close, because RS didn’t mercy rule everyone did they?

I dont know how long you have been around/played/or kept up with 6man. But imo those RS teams were on a different level than Benjamin. You do realize they won every game they played minus a playoff (semifinal I believe game) against the eventual state champion in Throckmorton. Who, by the way, was just in its second year of 6man. Also no division splits. Take it fwiw. Now Chaka is and was an amazing talent. Could he throw like TE? The answer is no. You should also look up his teammates on all of those teams who were all-staters. Again, I saw and witnessed TE his freshman year, his first state championship. They could have 45'd Valley but decided not too I guess. And that wasn't even their most talented team. To each their own

Trinidad got close to that feat with Damian Jackson. It was a little more competitive back then without the division splits. There are too many variables you aren't even considering. And again, I didn't say Gordon would get beat by them. I said it would be a good game.

No arguments here. I’m just brainstorming.

Tell me you're a young guy without telling me. I get your point. Track does help your argument, but there is a big difference with how you run on a track compared to a football field. Example 1: Jerry Rice. Example 2: Barry Sanders. Example 3: Dwayne Miles.

Something else you may need to consider is the difference of the game now compared to back then. Chop blocking, Crack backs, helmet to helmet, aka potential for more injuries to happen.

Again I get your point, and it's valid. However, I disagree that they would in your words, "eat those RS teams alive." I think, in my opinion, it would be a good game. And again, I never said Gordon would lose.

Did they have three legit DI college players as part of a ten person senior class?

I’m ready for next year when we can move past the unbeatability of Gordon, but I think some people discount what it means to truly have college D1 dudes on your team. I hear about guys from back in the day who were truly great six man players, but they end up at places like Sul Ross, etc. Gordon is winning so easily that their studs don’t have gaudy statistics and still get D1 offers. Tells me all I need to know about how a matchup would go.

So in your mind yoi dont think someone like a Dwayne Miles could hold up? Or a Mason Pierce? If you are overlooking Tyler Ethridge then you dont know how good he truly was. Things are different than they were in the past. You habe all of this social media, websites for recruiting, and more schools that are considered D1 now.

Understand I am not taking anything away from Gordon or their athletes. But I will say that yes, if the same exposure was there as it is now, there would have been multiple kids go D1 from the past. And im not just talking track, I am talking football.

Also rule changes have changed the game. No more cut blocking, Crack backs, helmet to helmet to helmet, etc. So it would be more physical whether you agree or not.

One other thing, when there was no internet recruiting, amongst any other things I could mention, why do you think nobody got recruited in the past in 6man besides the Sul Ross, WT's, etc.. because the coaching world thought 1A was weak and had weak competition if they were dominant.

That's how things were. But as I said in a previous post, there were 6man kids that got scholarships to Texas Tech and many other schools in track. And yes they were just as fast.

Also remember I never said Gordon would lose, I just said it would be a good game.
