McLean would get my vote. They weren't fast but fast enough and they were big and played very disciplined defense. All the starters were solid tacklers. Gordon would have a difficult time blocking the bigger, stronger players. All that speed doesn't do much when it is bottled up. Gordon isn't used to being tackled but Rankin might slow them down a bit.
Being from Aquilla i feel like i have to give honorable mention to the 2000 aquilla team. They were very salty and very disciplined. I don’t think they win but i think they give a better game than what the longhorns will have dec 17th
Just a hypothetical here, what happens when Gordon spreads it out? Don't get me wrong those Mclean teams were very good and strong, but that speed Gordon has is unmatched. If they have any daylight they are gone. Those boys from Gordon are fast, but they are also pretty strong. Speed kills in sixman

Difficult to have speed when they get knocked down. Make it a football game with contact.
It would have to be a team that stood a chance to stop their offense. I am having a hard time thinking of a team that could match up with the number of play makers this Gordon team has. There are teams with a better player but not 4 better players.
Im not sure these teams would beat Gordon, but would like to see the matchups

These two I think would stand the better chances against them bc I think they would have a size advantage and could disrupt things enough to cause some problems. McLean did play a tough game against Milford...but that Milford team might be the best team to never win a state game they had a lot of talent

Crowell is only team I can think of that MIGHT be able to take Gordon to full game. They had team size and team speed. I’d put the 2013 or 2014 Crowell over any other team except Gordon. We have had the pleasure and pain (lol) of watching what will go down as best TEAM ever in the Gordon Longhorns.

I take that back. 1983 Cherokee had a big and very fast squad. Unfortunately early in the season they lost Kenny Alexander a very talented athlete to a car accident. Kenny and his teammate Robert Williams were absolutely dynamic. We would all know those two names had it not been for tge accident. Robert went to state in track in 2-3 solo events maybe 4 I can’t remember. Obviously the loss of Kenny hurt the team tremendously. No doubt they win state in 83 with Kenny. No doubt all.
I’m not familiar with what they did in 2001. I just recently watched the state game in 2002 where they were down 32-0 at halftime and came back and won. Those were some serious boys
I played against this Crowell team and can agree. I'd bet that the Crowell team would be able to score at will. I've watched the state championships since 2012, and I'd say Crowell is the next best to this Gordon team that I've seen, over McLean 2018 and BC 2017. I also think Jayton's team from LAST YEAR could've played a full game against Gordon. The juniors and seniors on that team were just as athletically capable. Back-to-back state champs in basketball (defeating Gordon en route), 2nd in the mile relay at state behind Gordon. Too bad we'll never know!!
This is exactly right. From a fan standpoint it sounds perfect. From a player/school/team standpoint, how do you get up for another game after you just won the state title? Where do you play it? When do you play it since we are already at XMas break. No matter what you did, it would not match playing at AT&T for the state title. Plus these schools go straight into basketball, which they are already behind as far as practice and games.
I think the Trinidad team from the late 90’s with Damian Jackson would’ve been a good matchup.They had 4 or 5 very talented players with size and speed that could match Gordon. The biggest discrepancy in my opinion of the two teams would be the coaching quality. Give that Trinidad team a Mike Reed equivalent coach and I think it would be a great ball game.

My Nephew played for May those two state games. I remember looking at the kids from Crowell thinking damn they are bigger than I was in college or in the Army. I’m no little guy. It literally looked like grown men playing high school football. Sixman has received a lot of attention from colleges in past few years. I give credit to those that brought that attention. But My thoughts are had that much attention been on sixman in 2013-2014 you would probably see at least two from Crowell get scholarships. Would have made one hell of a state championship game.

I think Richland is way good. The Gordon game was probably the most competition Gordon has had even though not even close. But Richland dismantled a pretty good May team with ease. I think Richland definitely has the Athletes to make it a game. Not sure they can pull it off though. But should be a great one. The other one…………. Not so much. Great job and congrats to Rankin glad they made it, we have had some great battles with them through the years.

Not the same when you have 120 kids to pick from compared to 12. Sure Gordon has some great athletes that could match well obviously but they don’t have 6 that could match up to 6 from that big of school. Gordon has a special group of athletes and I’m happy for those kids.
My example was a little extreme. But for good reason. I don’t think you truly find a 1A challenge for this gordon team even if you search back 50 years or 50 years in the future. From my experience they are mostly all humble, nice kids and they work very hard. They deserve success even if it makes the games a little less interesting for the rest of us. When they nearly beat Abbott with a team full of freshman i knew they wouldn’t lose again after that game

Watch 2005 Throckmorton, and RS with TE. Time always makes it seem like the "older" teams couldn't compete. Those teams would match up very well and imo it would be a good game. Gordon's team is a very very great team. RS with TE lost one game in TE's 4 year tenure, and that was to 2005 Throckmorton. Gordon has lost one game in their's. Very similar and would be interesting
