Six-Man only Stadium

As we go deeper into the playoffs, I’ve noticed that a lot of these games are played at 11-man schools with artificial turf fields.

Which shouldn’t be a problem except, unlike with a grass field, you have paint over the already existing lines because of the difference of field dimensions between 11-man and Six-Man.

This makes me wonder if for example the city of Abilene should build a cool bowl like six man stadium that could fit a lot of people to give these Six-Man schools a really special place to play games at.

What is everyone’s thoughts about this?

Cool idea but... not particularly practical. I mean, from a cost/benefit analysis point of view... still a cool idea though.

For practical purposes it should be built either at Putnam (more convenient than Carbon or Olden) or at Mingus. The Putnam ( right on I 20) location would be more travel friendly to the West Texas schools while Mingus would in the center of the Six man Universe. Gordon and Strawn would be strongly encouraged to play their playoff games and\or extracurricular activities there too. Jerry Jones would want to build an amusement park nearby and the local indigenous people a casino to take advantage of the crowds visiting on game days. No deer poaching allowed on game days! Ha. This has been discussed on this forum years ago. My idea was Baird for a classic stadium. Into the edge of West Texas but not yet the flatlands (so many love). Deep hills right by I-20 to help divert north and west winds in november and december. Lodging and more in Abilene not far away, but the stadium in a historic small town. Right on the Interstate, centrally located state wide.
We discussed a classic press box for a sixman facillity to keep Granger's toes warm, an electric heating strip, made of tin to reduce cost. Insulated but with window units to keep the cost down as well.
They've already got a nice stadium that holds 1400. Further development and promotion might be worth the price if the city cared to invest. A destination site for cross state games as well as playoff games. Decent barbeque would help.

Just out of personal curiosity I’d like to see an actual map with all teams that have turf and those that do not. Or at the very least numbers on each. Just from a quick glance I would think mainly the oil and wind belt of six man. I could very well be wrong though. I don’t know if I’m remembering right wasn’t there a site that had all texas stadiums? Anyone know it.?.?

I'd imagine this stat is probably true for ALL Texas fields, but I think the question was how many six-man schools have turf fields. I'd suspect a much, much lower number than 64%. I'd be surprised to know it was even close to 46%.

Alright somebody with time settle this. Yes I was referring to sixman schools not all classifications. I thought it was the point of the conversation but maybe I missed something. I’m gonna say around 20% just a guess. Priddy just put in a new track PLUS a nice turf sixman field. (They don’t even play football) not even bleachers at the time I saw it. I would guess it has come from the wind towers in the area.

Why would Priddy build a stadium if they don't play sixman!? Are there any playoff games played in Priddy!?

Priddy shows an enrollment of 116. May be they are expecting some growth in the near future?

I mean, when it comes to sixman football Baird is a relative newcomer. I'm not disputing the location/facilities/lodging potential of Baird, rather, if we're spit-ballin' this thing I'd like to think of a town with a history of sixman football. Maybe another town with Interstate access (or close to it) like Gordon/Strawn or maybe a Trent or Loraine. Perhaps y'all could just send me a bunch of $$ and I could have a Jerry's Sixman World built in the WV!

Not so fast there WV. I agree with the Baird statement but Putnam is a six man football legacy town. You are just too young to know that. Putnam would be the perfect spot. Could even rebuild their six man field (only better) which is on the south side of the interstate. No extra charge for visiting the Archer City looking main street located on the north side of the interstate. Jerry could prance out a few of his cheerleaders for grins or heart attacks (whatever fits) and everyone would be in hook, line and sinker. New Gofund is Putnam Six Man World Stadium.

I have an opinion about Priddy. I think it was a case of spend money or lose it to our state. I really don't think there is any intention of playing football, sixman or any other. They did want a new track!

While I agree with your assessment of the Putnam Panthers' sixman legacy claim, I gotta' point out that the Panthers were only around for 32 years and haven't been around for quite some time. Perhaps someplace a little more... relevant? Like... oh, I don't know, Megargel? Talpa-Centennial? Novice?

Those towns are too far from the Interstate. Now Carbon or Desdemona might be a good alternate selection. Carbon played football a lot longer than Desdemona and is somewhat closer to the interstate. If you going to split hair, Olden is right on the Interstate too but didn't play football as long as Carbon did either. I guess it's your choice.

Baird has been used as the site for The Texas Independent Sixman Championship Bowl Game for the last two years with more to come. Excellent venue, Fantastic Support, excellent field and press box.
Brand new RV park is right next door. Abilene with its Museum, other attractions and plenty of hotels make it worth the weekend. Oh, did I mention the Rock Walls, how much more Sixman can you get?
