School children and hunger

It is sad to see that everyone expects governments to feed the hungry. If every church in every community would look beyond their walls & took care of some local needs, maybe some of that dependence would dissipate. Our church makes regular contributions to the local meals on wheels program but there is much, much more that we could be doing.

Given the availability of free or very low cost food, I blame the negligent parents of any kid going to school hungry. It is NOT the government's job to feed your kid.

I just completed a college course on diversity and in one of the chapters it talked about how in England before the US was established, it was the churches responsibility to feed the hungry.

The one part of the article states that a mother holding a lit cigarette asks if there is going to be extras for adults... wrong priorities obviously.

Very interesting though churches of most denominations up until the 19th century generally took a heck of a lot more from the poor than they ever gave back. How do you think Westminster Abbey was built? The Vatican? ;)

Then another pic shows teenager hiding in the car(SUV?) to talk on her cellphone.
As with most of us,
the money is there for what we need
or what we want.
We must choose wisely.

Actually,
if we're counting on the Ag dept. subsidised
school lunch program
to support all the nutritional requirements of our kids,
let alone our student-athletes,
we're in big trouble!
