Regarding the officals at the Strawn vs Jonesboro game

ok. first i must say, great effort on both teams part. both teams played there hearts out on that field. now for the officials. it was obviously noticeable that the referees were on Strawns side. calling flags on the eagles when they did nothing wrong. and only calling flags on the greyhounds when the penalty was too noticeable by the crowd to ignore, well most of the time. i saw greyhound players pushing eagle players after the play was over and well within the sight of the referees and they called nothing. if any of the officials of that game are reading this. you should be ashamed of yourselves for taking the fairness out of a football game. i honestly think that if it wasn't for the referees, the eagles would have came out on top by much more than they did. i was rooting for Strawn that game. but now that i saw how much class the eagles played with and kept their cool with such horrible officials and still coming out on top. il be rooting for them for the rest of the season.

Officials in 9,999 cases out of 10,000 do their job the other one instance it might could go either way.

Don't bash officials - I have seen them do a poor to very poor job but in all my years ( several now ) and lots of games, both coaching and spectating, I don't know that I can ever really say I have seen a definitive case of referee one sided calling on the Varsity level.

Now that does not go for Freshman, JV and Junior High games, where I have seen "HOMERS" that should have been shot.

The way to rectify your perceived poor officiating is grab a rule book, pay some fees, take a test - start traveling and making good on those calls you think might be wrong. They have striped shirts with pants to match in YOUR SIZE I am sure..... This is all based on the fact you are old enough to do so .......

if you were there. you would be agreeing with me. everyone in the crowd could see it. i understand referees cant catch everything. and can make bad calls. but this was just too much to be just "some bad calls"

I was at the game. It was a good game although it was a little sloppy on both sides. The highlight of the night was the opening KO. Strawn kicked it onsides as I am sure they remembered having a couple of kicks returned for td's last season at Jonesboro. Onside kicking should be safe enough. Not this one. #7 for Jonesboro took it to the house and with the missed PAT lead 6-0 with about 10 seconds off the clock. That proved to be the winning margin as Jonesboro won 29-22.

All of that to say this, IF the officials favored Strawn, it wasn't enough to stop Joneboro. What I saw was a fired up Jonesboro team and a let's get this one over with Strawn team. There was a stretch late in the game when it seemed Jonesboro was flagged several plays in a row. Right or wrong on the flags. Jonesboro got the job done.

Again a good game. It was what I expected as I had Strawn ranked 6th and Jonesboro ranked 7th. I knew it would be close and I favored Strawn to win it with the game at their place. Again, Jonesboro played well enough to win.

Bashing officials already?
Without actually having done any Officiating?
Wow.
That's class.

You realize don't you,
that's it's only
one side
that doesn't like the call.

Well Mr. Hardin, wish I'd of known you were there, would have like to have met you & said howdy. I was having flashbacks of last year on the opening KO, they ran back 3 last year. I think the Hounds had a few growing pains. No excuse but after 45'n higher rankned Calvert the week before some of the younger players in particular seemed a little shell shocked going down 2TD's early although Coach Lee is known for not letting them be overconfident. Cudos to Coach Gallegos, Jonesboro came out fired up, I think he likes beatin his alma mater especially. I remember him jumpin up & down swingin his arms around in the 3rd or 4th over a stop. The penalties were pretty even really, 6 for 60 yds for JB, 7 for 55 for SHS. I do remember 2-3 times early on when JB players were doing some pushin & shovin after the whistle blew. Maybe not the smart thing to do but some Hounds responded in kind. Then there was that late hit out of bounds by a Hound in th 4th I think on 4th down, kinda like shootin yourself in the foot. We did shut em' out the 2nd 1/2 but only scored once. Course they stopped us 2-3-4 times on 4th down in their territory. Hounds had their chances. Naturally I think they could-shoulda-woulda won, if, if, if.

51eleven the late hit was in the 2nd qtr. on 4th down, after the Hounds stopped the runner short of the 1st down. It was on the Strawn side of the field and everyone could hear Coach "talking " to the young player that was guilty, letting him know that that wasn't the way the game was played. Jonesboro went on to score the next play. That was the last time they scored in the game. Good call by the offical. And a lesson learned to keep your emotions under control. Because that did make a difference in the game. The Hounds have a few growing pains to go through, but I bet they'll be ready by district.

Well at least I got the down right. I knew we had em' stopped on 4th & were gonna get the ball if not for the out of bounds hit. I think it was 2 years ago they lost the 1st or 2nd game & I commented to the HC that it could have been a good thing, he said it was, it was a wakeup call. Hopefully they do nothing but get better each game. Won't be there tonight but hope to listen - I like Reecy's (sp?) play calling, he gets excited, so yell loud -might hear ya. Hopefully see ya next week, for sure the week after at YOUR alma-mater.

Why would a late hit out of bounds on 4th down extend the drive? That would be a dead ball foul and assessed after the ball position is set and we are heading the other way.
