I'm am just wondering about these TLC schools from Arlington, Midland, etc... (even leveretts chapel). How are they eligible to play in the UIL public school system? I remember back when, these types of schools had to be private (Tapps or something). What changed and how is this legal?

Leverette’s Chapel is just the name of a public school. Has nothing to do with a church (as far as know....someone correct me if wrong).

The others are Charter schools...not private. Lots of differences between private and charter schools.

Thank you for your response but do you think charter schools should be welcomed to public schools or private? Seems that there could be an advantage being a charter school playing public schools(towns). I didnt know that about Leverttes Chapel. Where is that located lol

LC is somewhere in East Texas. Has been around a long time.

Charters are a touchy subject. They are funded by public money, some concentrate on academics, and some concentrate on athletics (Deion Sanders’ school for example). The UIL has changed their rules concerning charters and what classification they are regardless of enrollment numbers. It would take a long time to explain, and I really don’t feel like typing it all, lol.

Appreciate the input. Just confusing imo. I personally think they need to play Tapps or Private just like Lone Star North.

They are a public school in the UIL. Will be playing in D1 District 10 the next two years.
I'd like to quote Jones on this one since he knows a lot more than I do with Charter schools.

I just always thought or felt like they should be playing private.Thats how assumed it's always been. Was surprised to see TLC schools in UIL public districts.
