Non top 5 going to the championship?

Not always HK...it may take two or three good years for a team to be recognized...sometimes teams have only one good year and then several average years...
Case in point this year is Blum....undefeated, decent schedule but ranked 12th....

Melani,
Anyone that loves little towns and has an opinion and the inclination to share it and fight for it is most welcome in my book. I bleed maroon and white on Friday nights and the shade flares to red and black on Saturdays , use to be blue and silver on Sundays but don't seem to care much about those professional teams as much. anytime you'll are out her in the middle of the oil patch and need some help keep my cell # stored away for a rainy day 432-208-3147

I told her about you and her going to Rankin and she laughed so hard then got serious. What have you gotten me into mom. I'm writing down your number so they can visit with you. She's so ready to get out of the big city.

Don't let her talk to him! He's crazy! ;)

Jana has been talking about leaving the big city for a long time. She lives with her brother and that house would be so comfortable with anyone that wanted to stay. Big TV's in every room, the most comfortable comforters ever. A big living room were they went to discuss their days. A big kitchen that you didn't have to move to get what you wanted to cook. A gigantic pool. She went to run an errand and it took her about 20 minutes and drove up and saw her house broken into. They took all the TV's, electronics, the computers, jewelry, her personal not going to mention, and my granddaughters games. She had all the box games and CD's put out. All was gone. Now she has a fear that won't quit. After insurance paid for all the things stolen, she won't refurnish the items because they are getting out of the house. She was told by the police that all of them were watched, morning, lunch and night. She's so out of there as soon as she figures out where to head.

I would say with this coming week=round 2...."the best matchups for D1 ever." for a whole round....we will see some top 5 teams not going to the championship...but we will also see several great games...top to bottom...

You strengthen my case with your example. Blum started at 46th. If the ranking determined the winner, would they be undefeated? NO, they wouldn't. They have moved up to 12th BECAUSE they are undefeated. And now they are 10th, BECAUSE they won again in the first round.
Blum's BEST win was against Abbott, who is ranked #44, and they only beat them by 18. So, 10th seems to be rather generous to me. Blum may very well be better than 10th, but they have not beat a top 10 team yet. Records mean very little in the rankings. It's more about WHO you beat, WHO you lose to, and by how much. Fannindel is undefeated too, but should they be top 10? They are good, yes, but they are not top 10.

You got this all backwards HK.....who's on First?...What?...I don't Know....he's on third...

All i'm saying is you folks(Granger,Freeagent with Tapps,Leamann, yourself and the res) do a great job on this site...

People just don't see your starting basis for the rankings at the beginning of the season and therefore don't know why you are ranking them 12th at the end of the regular season....

The Playoffs are going to determine who is #1 not the rankings...

EXACTLY, the game determines the rankings!!!!
I knew you would get it.

It's not that the rankings are "wrong", they are just incomplete. We don't have all of the data until after the final game.

Congratulations to Abbott and Newcastle for advancing last night...

Follett looked awesome against MC....GFR was equally so against Lorraine...Should be a great matchup next week....

So what happens to you in the rankings, iffin ya win all your games so far...you move down a notch...Congratulations May...ain't got no respect yet....maybe next week...at least ya still got a shot at the championship....

Well PopRay, take a look at who they've vanquished in going undefeated. There are some good teams there but hardly a murders row. Take a look at who Crowell, Garden City, T-Rock, Ira or Water Valley beat this year. Strength of schedule, there's your difference. I hate to say it, but I don't think May is a top 5 team at all. They're probably ranked right where they should be. I don't say this because of some kind of east/west bias (I know this thing is cyclical and next year the top teams could be in the east) I say it because that's just the way it shakes out this year.

If T-Rock, Garden City, Water Valley, Ira, Rankin, Happy, or Knox City were in the east they'd still be playing too. If you don't believe that you're deluding yourself.

May as a whole is a very good program. Jr high went 7-2, JV 9-1, Varsity 13-0, in the toughest district in the State. 29-3 so far this year for the coaching staff. We will see what happens. I always say talk on the field when the game is over, because before the game its just hot air.

But not all teams are in a strong district. The majority of the teams in the playoffs would have had a hard time making it out of May's district.

What are you basing that claim on, Bigdog51? Rankings?

I don't base it solely on rankings, though May did have 4 teams from their district in the top 15 in rankings. But having seen the talent on those teams, I was pretty impressed. It was a hard fought battle for the district title. If not for injuries, May would have more than likely played lometa this past Friday
