Non top 5 going to the championship?

Seems like there are a few teams out there not getting much recognition...Playoffs is the time to prove them wrong...

In DI... I see Blum(12th in rankings) with a perfect 10-0 season and May(6th in rankings) an also with an unblemished record, as two teams who could possibly make some noise deep into the playoffs...Also don't totally discount Valley...

In DII... Dawson an undefeated team that is ranked 6th...Richland Springs(9th) a young team that has gotten experience and a coach who finds ways to win...real dark horses who could surprise are Milford and Motley County...

KB you are a little devil. My daughter is headed to Rankin and I'm going to have to warn her about you in case she runs into you.

If they're from the east they'll be in the finals without being in the top 5 no matter who it is

The Gunslinger hits the nail on the head. May is the highest ranked team from the East and they sit at #6 so... yes, a "Non top 5" will be going to the championship.

I'll get some information from you and maybe you two can meet up. I know she'd love to meet you. Just be nice to my beautiful daughter. Don't convince her into moving to Rankin. She needs to stay around her mommy, lol

I've been to Rankin Miss Melani. Don't worry about your little girl moving there. As long as she can see, anyways.

Sorry kbJoe. It was too easy to not take that shot. :-)

Years many ago I used to go through Rankin. We lived in McCamey. She's going to Rankin for Thanksgiving. Her husbands mom lives there. Heck OFB she may like little towns. She and her brother will be at odds forever if she doesn't come back. Then again she may want to stay. She has always like to pick fights.

Rankings really mean nothing now...It's what you leave on the field.....

Rankings=Ratings=Spreads

I think? That's how I see it anyway. I agree rankings really mean nothing in a few games in early rounds, and in later rounds they will mean even less. But from the scores I am seeing tonight, they mean something.

Valley #7 - Mclean #39
GC #3 - SC #27
Oakwood #36 - Leveretts Chapel #56
Loraine #7 - Robert Lee #20

All 2 quarter games it appears.

Obviously not good contests...but they deserve to have their shot no matter how the match turned out....
Over half the games in the regular season ended the same way....should we not play them?

Even in Championship and later playoff rounds there are 45's all over the place...part of this game

Not play them? Where did that come from? I was addressing your statement that rankings didn't mean anything. They are not perfect, but they are pretty darn accurate. Also, the games ending by 45 are posted yearly and kept track of. Its roughly 50% and has been for years. I bet these ranking/ratings/spreads do considerably better than 50%.

Now back to your question, YES, all games should be played.

Rankings obviously give an indication of a teams strength or weakness...especially when there is a big disparity in rankings(ie>20 places or 50 points)...but I'm glad the boys get to go out there and prove themselves, even though, the ratings don't bear this out all the time. I'm also glad when a team goes out and shows that the rankings are just a toy and that what matters is that you prove them wrong all over again!
It wasn't bore out last night but it will at some point because... we are not perfect and are toys aren't either...sometimes upsets happen....otherwise we could just go to a BCS system

I could see Blum Bobcats going all the way, we played them this season, and wow, they are quick, fast, a very athletic group of youngsters, and if they don't make state this year, they will in the next few years, I guarantee it

Ur thinking is still backwards. We've had this conversation before. The rankings don't determine who will win. Who wins determines the rankings.
