Packaging trick. They're betting you won't eat the half of the sleeve that you crush, or spill onto the floor. You'll buy twice as many crackers as you need. And they make twice as much profit.
Obviously, this is an assumption they make about the AVERAGE consumer. My assumption, however, is that you are more like me, and the 5 second rule is more like a 5 day rule while in the kitchen or on the couch.

My mom will be 87 this Friday. She might weigh the same as her age. I've never seen her put butter on her toast but she sure likes bacon grease smeared on it.
