Mercy Rule Update 2011

Interesting thing ... on another board (not sixmanfootball.com; yeah, I know, I do go to those other sites...) one of those crowded field guys asked me how many sixman games are within 10 points, because it seems like most of them (to him) are 56-0.

So, I went through the week 6 numbers. Of the 112 games actually played, 16 of them were decided by 10 points or less (abour 15%).

Well, I wondered if that matched up to 11 man data. I checked (on that site) their 11 man private school finals for September 30th (this week wasn't available). There were 48 games, and 6 of them (about 18%) were within 10 points.

So, actually, games can be as "close" in sixman as our crowded field folks. And since the average number of points put up in a sixman game is higher than 11 man, it's actually tougher to have a "close" game on our side of the street.

Mercy Rule Update - Week 6
Games Ending under the 45-point rule

. . .

I am constantly amazed that you can keep up with all these teams and game. Right now I still seem to have to go back and correct game match ups every week. Of course some is due to the loosely applied naming conventions EP some of the time then El Paso the next week or all the 10-15 word named teams that get reduced to some type of acronym.

Not bitching, but some of these church schools are making my life harder :)

I would suggest to Granger that he publish a definitive list of school names and then we all use those, Him being the GURU that we try to emulate.

just saying :)

We are now 15 games behind the pace of total games for 2010 (1119 games in 2010 through week 8). My guess is that we'll end the 2011 regular season somewhere just north of 1200 games, which would fall short of last year's 1227 games.

Mercy Rule Update - PLAYOFF EDITION/FINAL RESULTS
Games Ending under the 45-point rule

PLAYOFF RESULTS (WEEKS 11-15)

Public Schools: 26 of 60 games (43.3%)

Public Schools vs. Private Schools: 1 of 6 games (16.7%)
Of these 6 games, public schools won 2 and private schools won 4

(Note: I classify charter schools who do not belong to a private school league (T-CAL primarily allows charter school members, but I believe TCAF also has one charter school member) as PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Austin NYOS and Dublin Premiere Charter competed in the Independents Bowl tournament in Weeks 11/12 and therefore are counted as public schools. I believe Dublin Premiere will compete in T-CAL in 2012 and will move into the schools counted as private schools that season.)

Private Schools: 25 of 51 games (49.0%)

All Games: 51 of 117 games (43.6%)

FINAL SEASON RESULTS:

Public Schools: 336 of 652 games (51.5%)
Down 16 games from 2010 (668)

Of these 171 games, private schools won 97 of these games (53.0%)
Up 14 games from 2010 (163)

This is the first time private schools have won a majority of these games in the four years I've kept this statistic (Private school wins '10: 46.0%. '09: 45.6%; '08: 39.5%) I'll put some of that increase in private school wins up for the influx of charter schools, but the 2011 season was one where several private schools (Austin Hill Country, Abliene Christian, Dallas Covenant) were extremely competitive, even with some of the top UIL competition.

Private Schools: 265 of 498 games (53.2%)
Down 8 games from 2010 (506)
