McLean is For Real!

I've had the opportunity to coach with Coach Linman when he was in Anton. He is a great coach! He knows how to get the best out of Kids and he is very passionate about football and kids. I have nothing but the upmost respect for him and his staff. He is a hard working guy as are his kids. Yes he is blessed to also have hard working kids in McClean. I've met a few of them and they seem to be very respectful and hard working. They are the REAL DEAL. Tough, Physical, Hardworking and above all COACHABLE. Hats off to the McClean Tigers and best of Luck to them the rest of this season! Go getem Linman you deserve it amigo!

I reckon "panhandle" is anything north of Silverton? Heck man, anything north of Lubbock is the panhandle to me but I imagine you folks that live up there have a better definition of it than me.

I only lived in the Panhandle for 5 years, but the consensus was if it’s South of Childress, it’s the Southern Plains.

Tdog is talking trash and we all know that he isnt in highschool and the groom team wont be able to back it up either

When I lived in the Panhandle, I had only positive interactions with folks from Groom. Same for people from McLean! I’m sure Tdog is only taking a healthy interest in Groom’s football team and showing his hometown support! No need to turn it into something bad!

I had the privilege of coaching these studs for 3 years it is no surprise at what they are doing. They are great kids from great families. The boys work hard and are hungry for success. Best of luck going forward to McLean. Keep getting after it guys.

Lol well when I played mclean we usually put it on em and ran the score up so I'm glad I don't have any kids playing

I actually got curious about how McLean and Groom stacked up, so I did a comparison from years past. From the year 2000, the teams met 13 times. McLean won 8, while Groom won 5. So, maybe just some glory days syndrome? We all get it sometimes!
Lol kinda what I was thinking! I think it got a little personal for a moment. Sometimes programs change. Teams you beat end up being the teams your program loses to later on down the road. Happens all the time whether we like it or not.

Absolutely! Just the way it is. A lot of these small schools hit a good luck with some really athletic kids, and then the well goes dry.
Actually,
With that many big boys
It could very well be McLeans turn!
Every year is different.

It absolutely could be! One never knows!

I definitely think that McLean could go all the way if they keep up the good work. They have a lot of athletic kids and a great coach. This team has plenty of potential.

McLean is real. They are tough. Strawn was the fastest team I have ever seen in 30 yrs of sixman ball. They did a little bit of damage in the beginning by spreading things out but McLean adjusted to it and shut them down. They have some weapons!

You must have seen 2013 Grandfalls-Royalty.

First, congratulations to McLean on a big win for their program.
Just a couple of questions about this game and another in Jayton (if not to distract from the topic too much). First, I didn't get tuned in to this one until a little late, I think late first. Somewhere during the game I thought I heard the announcer say McLean pinned Strawn back on the goal line on the opening kickioff then scored a safety. When Strawn kicked off to them McLean scored again quickly and with the xp went up 10-0. Seems liked they might have scored again before Strawn got on the board?

Second, I only caught the last 5 minutex of the BC -U Hill game. Shad said it had been acompetetive game through much of it, and that at one point in the 3rd (?) both teams scored 2 TD's each in a minute. That would have been someting to see, curious how it happened.

I searched few papers for game summaries or a box score but came up empty. Any comments or links appreciated.

That's about right. Childress is just a warning sign that you are getting too close to Oklahoma.

I'm a sixman junkie and I've always followed mclean being in the same district. We all know the studs Crockett and Henderson and manns but I heard alot of other names on the radio like hannon richland and abshires who I thought graduated sounds like tons of talent and weapons. In my research I don't know of a D1 school that is from the panhandle that has ever made it to the big dance.

Whitharral won the championship in '81 and '01. Amherst won it all in '84 and '85. I guess they would be considered "panhandle" schools, right?
Amherst won in 94 and 95
Valley and Follett both played in state championship games

In Valley's case ther was only one division
Follet played Strawn in 2008

Much like people debate what is "west Texas"...what is the panhandle can also be debated...but ya several schools have made it to the big dance:

1974 Follett 8man Champs
1978 Cotton Center - runner up
1979 Cotton Center - runner up
1981 Whitharral - Champs
1994 Amherst - Champs
1995 Amherst - Champs
1999 Groom - runner-up
2001 Whitharral - Champs
2004 Valley - runner up
2005 Valley - runner up
2008 Follett - runner-up (DI)
2012 Follett - runner-up (DII)
2014 Groom - runner-up (DII)
2015 Follett - runner-up (DII)

Leman, I remember a kid from Follett everyone called “six man superman”. Do you know what his name would’ve been? Would’ve been around 2005ish.
