I played with a plastic helmet with a face guard. The leather vs composite football thread somehow reminded me of the George Clooney movie Leatherheads. In light of the current concerns about concussions, with all the improvement's, it made me think about the past. Getting slammed in the nose with the forehead of someone running full speed would have been no fun. Nor would have eye gouging. Or getting punched in the face on the bottom of a pile. Of course I never did any of these things in a backyard or street game.

The backyard/street pick up football game is lost to time just about, today's kids don't participate much in just the friends getting together for a fun but hard fought game...........
