Kickoff into the endzone

Kickoff goes rolls into the endzone and kicking team recovers the ball. Is this a touchdown or a touchback? Mind you recieving team did not touch the ball.

Rule 6, Section 1, Article 7: When a free kick untouched by Team B touches the ground on or behind Team B's goal line, the ball becomes dead and belongs to Team B.

It doesn't matter who recovers the kick, once it rolls into the endzone, it's a touchback.

Just to give folks something to think about...So say the player receiving the ball muffs in at 2 yard line touches but never contols it. Ball crosses the goal line and kicking team falls on it? You make the call....

Key word in the rule is "untouched" by receiving team! Its a muff and live ball otherwise, correct?

Live ball. The receiving team can go back there and recover the ball and kneel down for a touchback. If the kicking team recovers it will be a TD.

I've found that this is one rule that "Sunday fans" tend to yell about quite a bit, one of the rules they see in the NFL and expect to be the same at the high school level.

Faceguarding is the worst on that note.
