It's FINALLY Here!

Has this season gone on forever, or is it just me? With a week-long postponement what are the thoughts? Does the extra week favor one team? Any injury reports from either camp? Which team needed the rest more?

tepryde- I'd like to hear your opinions. You used to coach #5 and you know Freddy probably better than anyone. What say you?

freeagent?

Anyone? Anyone?

I still gotta think Castle Hills is the favorite.

But giving Shipman an extra week to scheme may help Freddy; remember, Freddy (like Lifegate) had good leads on Castle Hills in their game, but Castle Hills came back to win all three games.

If Castle Hills can open the holes and tie up the defenders that need to stop Dante (although Ethan Leos can be nearly as deadly a poison), it may be a long/short night for everybody.

And as I said before, Coach Criner and his staff has shown they weren't sleeping during Professor Shipman and Professor Rabon's classes the past couple years.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know much about Castle Hills except that they have an incredible player in #5 and a strong o-line. However, I do know Freddy and Tim Shipman, and with an extra week to prepare you can bet your bottom dollar they will have a great game plan for this game. I don't think this will be a short game... I would look for it to go all four quarters and the score to be within 10 points. I think if the game were played on schedule I'd take Castle Hills.. but with that extra time, I think I'll give the edge to Freddy. Freddy in a close one, 52-46

Thank you everyone for being so positive on this board. I am looking forward to a great game on Saturday and regardless of the victor, all players and coaches can be proud. It will be a special game.

It is never safe to bet against Coach Shipman - he and his Heritage Teams have 5 championships to back that statement up. However, on occasion, a team may have the right mix to beat them.

My guess is CH 45 - FH 36. I think Fredericksburg Heritage will take an early lead but the size and strength of the Castle Hills O-Line along with the speed, power and determination of Dante Johnson will slowly wear down the superb FH defense. The most devasting weapon for a power running team is a great deep threat and Castle Hills has that with Ethan Leos. According to Max Preps, Leos had 4 of the 6 TDs in the previouos CH-FH game while Johnson had well over 200 yards rushing. That is a tough combination to stop. Although CH only starts one senior on defense, they seem to bend a lot but play their best around the goal line. That is a good defense to have in a championship game.

But the historically outstanding tackling and blocking of Fredericksburg Heritage always makes them a threat to win. Additionally, the FH running attack seems to be getting better each week. In cold and windy weather, outstanding defense and a great running game win most playoff games so they very well could add number 6 to their trophy case.

Like most games between excellent teams, turnovers and mistakes will probably decide it. I can see this game being very close going into the 4th quarter. It should be worthy of its designation - a State Championship Game.

Naturally, I'm taking Freddy. The extra week for Shipman to let the game plan sink in, and the extra week of preparation for the guys, certainly is a nice chip in their pile. I'm seeing a shootout with the winner being the defense with the most stops. I think Freddy's kicking game is better and those PAT's may be the decider. Joe Meek and Chad Johnson want it, and they're ready to lead. Additionally, the underclassmen have found their niche in the well oiled Freddy war machine. I'm taking Freddy over Castle 58-52.

Hupomone!

Well, here is my two cents for whatever it's worth. I went to the first Freddy vs Castle Hills game and one thing I noticed was Freddy didn't seem to be big enough up front to consistently stop Castle Hills (Dante) when they were in tight offense. I personally think that if Castle Hills were to run Dante on four straight possessions he would get you a first down if not a touchdown on every possession. But obviously you can't do that. Dante would not be able to carry the ball 40 times and still play defense. I believe when Dante gets tired they could let him run a sweep and have the option to throw a pass to Ethan running a crossing route. That play would be nearly unstoppable because I don't really think that you can stop both players. If Castle Hills decides to just run right at Freddy I don't see Freddy being able to slow Dante down. If Castle Hills tries to get fancy then that is where I believe they could mess up. Freddy doesn't get fancy. That is what makes them soooo good. Freddy is gonna spread the field and run, run, run. What makes them sooo good is their blocking. The key will be if they can block Dante with only one blocker. I don't think they will be able to do that. I believe it will take two blockers to block Dante. If the other 5 Castle Hills players can get the job done, I believe Castle Hills will win by a couple of touchdowns. One thing that will keep the score close will be extra points. Freddy rarely misses and Castle Hills is iffy at best. If Freddy wins the game, I believe it will be because they made their PAT's and Castle Hills didn't. Good luck to both teams!!!!!!

TEPRYDE - You nailed the prediction and going into the 4th quarter it looked like Freddy might win by those PATs you discussed.

I believe it to be the elite sport in Texas because:
Players can play to thier full potential on every down,
Coaches have enough time to invest totally into every aspect of the players livesdue to smaller number of players
Fans are supportive of the team regardless of the outcome of the game
Fields are constructed to allow the fans to be heard throughout the entire game on the field

I could add more, but that is my story and i am sticking to it.
If you were at the game Saturday night, you would have witnessed why I called it an elite game. Special players in the big game, special teams in the big game and it proved to me that it was not just a game against rivals, but a game that was played with integrity and heart. My kudos to both teams.

Goodyear75 well put. Thank you.
Congratulations to Coach Criner his staff, his team and Castle Hills First Baptist School.

You never like to be on the wrong side of the scoreboard. I was proud of both teams for playing a hard clean game. It has been a joy to watch Coach Criner grow as a coach and a leader. He along with his staff have worked hard to build the Castle Hills program and saturday night their hard work paid off in terms of a state championship. More importantly he leads and expects his team and staff to play and coach in a Christ-like manner. Thank you Coach Criner and Thank you to all the coaches out there who are teaching young men to be Christian leaders through the game of football.

I wont share all the personal things that I shared with our team after this season, however I do want to recognize them for leading on and off the field as the Lord has called them.

Note to all. I dont post much and I sure am not fishing for compliments here.
(although I cant wait to pull the fly rod out for some quiet time)
It has been a tremendous journey this year and I look forward to continuing to build Freddy, to lead by example, and to build on the relationships that have been made all over the state. My friends continue to run the race well. God needs warriors in the battle field for our youth. Continue to sharpen the arrows through this awesome game we call six man football.

Hupomone,
Coach Shipman

Big salute headed your way, Coach. Miss ya. I would have loved to have stood on the sidelines with my brothers this season, maybe next year.
As always, Hupomone.

Dixon - I assume #12 (Parker Pattillo) was your brother in the FH - CH State Championship game. He played a great game - leading the offense with precision and efficiency, and playing tough on defense. He had two superb plays in the fourth quarter that both looked like they might turn the game around. The first on a blitz that resulted in an 8 yard loss forcing CH into 2nd and 23. The second was a beautiful kickoff return late in the game that nearly went for a TD. That return breathed life into FH at just the right time and put them in a position to rally.

I am sure he learned it all from you. :-) He is keeping the legacy alive at Heritage. Congratulations to Parker and all the Heritage players and coaches on another tremendous season.
