Is April the Worst Month Ever?

Leman Saunders

Six-man expert
I have always thought this was odd and given the events that have happened this year...man some horrible things have happened in April:

I am sure I am missing some:

2013 - Boston Marathon Bombing, West, TX explosion, Ricin Letter Attacks
2010 - BP Oil Spill/Explosion (11 killed)
2007 - Virginia Tech Shooting (32 killed)
1999 - Columbine School Shooting (13 killed, plus the 2 killers)
1995 - Oklahoma City Bombing (168 killed)
1993 - Waco Branch Dividian Incident (76 killed)
1986 - Chernobyl Disaster in Russia (31 killed Russia claimed but likely a lot more)
1970 - Apollo 13 launched
1968 - Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated
1961 - Bay of Pigs invasion began
1947 - Texas City, TX explosion on french ship in port (581 killed)
1912 - Titanic sinks (1,502 killed)
1906 - Great San Francisco earthquake (est. 3,000+ killed)
1865 - Abraham Lincoln assassinated
1861 - Civil War started at Ft Sumter, NC

1599 - Oliver Cromwell was born
1841 - William Henry Harrison dies in office, first president to die in office, of pneumonia
1945 - FDR dies in office from cerebral hemorrhage
2005 - Pope John Paul II dies

Actually, only 30-40 died in Chernobyl and nearly all those were power plant workers and firefighters. The theory the so-called "experts" used to estimate the total casualties from radiation effects is wrong and this has been known among the health physics community for 30+ years. It severely overestimates the cancers and the deaths from these cancers.

I had to put Cromwell's birth in there because of my Irish ancestory...he's not well like there! Malachy McCourt wrote a history of Ireland and in his chapter on Cromwell it is extremly short and uses a single quote to sum up Oliver Cromwell "He out Heroded Herod" and McCourt then said "I will leave it at that"

There you go letting facts get in the way of a good story.

well the stat I saw was 31 killed in the blast...and I am sure a few died later as a result of it...never said how many

anyway...

1865 - USS Sultana sinks, est. 1,800 killed, worst maritime disaster in US history

They said you could feel it in Amarillo. Look that up on a map and see how far away that is if you want.

So far April is the worst month because of the WEATHER. Hot, cold, hot, cold...

Won't be a sprout of fruit this year.

My father-in-law used to tell of the carnage in Texas City in 1947; he was a medical resident at UTMB in Galveston and they brought all the residents from the med school to assist in triage.

And coincidentally, my wife's grandfather (her mother's father) was one of the "fathers" of triage, having been an Army medical doctor (WW2, Korea) who later became Surgeon General in the Army because of his skill in medical logistics and getting supplies to the troops instead of waiting for the troops to come to the medical facilities...

Our prayers to all those injured and surviving the blast in West. May the comforting Lord protect and console those hurt and those suffering losses.

April 20, 1889 Adolph Hitler was born
April 22, 1870 Vladimir Lenin was born Also this date was established as Earth Day in 1970- Coincidence? I think not.

Compared to the people and tragedies listed I guess it's nothing (only money), but the 15th can be a depressing day if Uncle Sam sticks his hand in your britches and squeezes your wallet.

Was he the guy who thought up the MASH units? When was he the Surgeon General?

Maybe. So many shooting in April. We've heard so many shooting incidents these years, especially in schools. Government should pay more attention the school security and measures needed to be taken. Maybe install metal detector at the entrance and have security guards.
