What are some scrimmages coming up??
I know Westbrook has Blackwell, Strawn and Water Valley this week. Then they host Borden County and Water Valley next week as well.
I watched these scrimmages today and I would say the pre-season rankings are fairly accurate as far as can tell so far. I would say , however, that Water Valley while being a very solid team may be somewhat far away from the level of Gordon. Current rankings has Gordon at #1 and Water Valley at #2.

I also watched these teams today. I thought it was a great 1st scrimmage for everyone. Each team showed some fatigue in the last battle as temps rose. Strawn had some big physical kids, Blackwell had a little speed, Westbrook executed fairly well, and WV had a solid defense. I know this is a first scrimmage, and coaches are making sure the basics are covered, but everyone looked good. Looking forward to next week's scrimmages.

You saw just a snippet of what WV can do

Saw a 5-team scrimmage this evening at Allen Academy. Teams were: Austin Veritas, Kingwood Covenant Prep, Bellville Faith, Bryan St. Joseph, and host Allen.

I would say that’s correct with all the teams considering it was the first scrimmage. I saw some good from all teams and saw some struggles from all team’s which is to be expected. Westbrook is down this year so I was happy with the showing for the first scrimmage, and expect them to get better.
Strawn won the loudest coaching staff hands down. :ROFLMAO:

Jayton is again the real deal!! They have 3 outstanding talented players. The other three on the field with them looked solid, no holes on defense. MC has an outstanding RB. Their team looked like world beaters against BC, but sputtered a bit against Jayton. BC did not look like a top ten team. The teams they played was good and they have lots of kids that they are trying to bring up to speed at the same time.

Was glad when Strawn got added to the scrimmage...best matchups where Strawn v Water Valley and Westbrook v Blackwell...***that I watched in full (edited to clarify)*** Water Valley's defense was what I walked away being impressed by from their time vs Strawn. I wouldnt say they were loud...Strawn's coaching staff was very engaging, coaching and correcting the whole time and it was great to see that too. They got excited at times and brought high energy for a scrimmage...I would say the most engaging and best energy (WV's energy vs Strawn was also pretty good)...I for one liked to see that

I must have not been at the same scrimmage.

Not sure what you are disagreeing with but I will explain more

I went in questioning how good Water Valley would be, so them holding Strawn scoreless (I believe) is why that was my biggest takeaway. If I had to pick the 2nd best matchup Blackwell v Westbrook would have to be it by default as the others I thought were pretty one-sided and Im talking about 1st team matchups as there were some good 2nd team and JV matchups and all teams had underclassmen that impressed me...

I will admit I didnt watch much of Westbrook v Water Valley so maybe I missed something there. (I was engaged watching Blackwell v Strawn which is the one I paid the most attention to)

Water Valley was the bigger team and Strawn has some good size as well.

All teams Im sure got better from this scrimmage which is what you want.

Westbrook ran the same play back to back almost on one of their last plays vs Strawn and first plays vs Blackwell that was a nice little quick play action route, Strawn tackled the kid inside the 5 and the play scored on Blackwell...that was a cool play. Westbrook also ran a center sneak once that was cool to see.

Well in my opinion even though Westbrook beat water valley 3-1 I wouldn’t it was one sided. I thought Strawn/Water Valley/Westbrook were all good scrimmages, Blackwell looked ok at times but were clearly over powered but I thought they have a good team for sure. Should make for successful seasons for all 4 in my opinion……… but I’m no expert.
