General Consencus - Games Stopped for Weather

51eleven i would like to clarify that my comment craziness was in no way related to game stoppage.... the danger of posting a one word response... too much interpretation :)

I would think that the lack of refs is the glaring issue here for the most part. In Gordon's game against Newcastle Friday night... every time a kick went into the end zone, the ref placed the ball on the 25, regardless of how much either coach griped and told them they were doing it wrong and that was only an 11 man rule. By the 4th quarter they finally got the idea.

I agree this is an odd situation, but we encounter this every few years.

It is hard to get all sides of a story. It seems as more gets flushed out, what we heard initially may NOT be the whole story and as we know, the TRUTH will exist somewhere in between. The more and more I hear, the more all of these game should be considered cancelled.

Did MC try to reschedule? Yes, BUT maybe they couldn't on Saturday for a certain reason. How is that any different than Highland not wanting to leave school early Friday to play. Maybe it worked better for them to play Saturday.

.

I am having a hard time grasping what the problem is here ...

It seems the problem most everyone is addressing is the win or lose aspect or having the win or loss mandated.

Why is there a problem with declaring any non-district game that is shortened for whatever reason just declared a non game ? The win / loss makes no difference in my eyes. If you go undefeated for the season you are still undefeated.

This addresses all of the problems there might be with teams that can't play at a different time, location, would be short of players, no officials, economically not feasible or what ever reason. It ends the finger pointing or blaming one or the other participants, coaches or administrators for refusing what ever options might be presented for completing the game.

I do have a problem as I have stated with the stats being negated but that presents a whole very complicated and convoluted situation and debate. To me it is the stats for the individual players that takes the hit here.

Someone help me out here and explain what the big hullabaloo is on just having a non-district game just count a non game.

agreed.

I have always gone one way or the other when there was a distinct attempt by one team to NOT play a game.

Interpreted as in relation to the subject at hand. As JO alludes to below we're kinda making a mountain out of a mole hill here. I know it's frustrating to the teams and fans but they are basically loosing 1-2-3 quarters of real game practice time for district and beyond. Now if it was for a district championship, playoff spot or game, re-schedule or forfeit.

New development. .as for the Highland v MC game...the Uil has no say on if it is a forfeit or not as its a non district game. After talking to all the key people involved...no question in my mind this was a cancelled game. Highland didnt want kids missing another day of school on Friday for a 4pm game, both schools seemed to have said they wouldnt travel to the others home field, and MC couldnt play on Sat because thye had a game on Thur in week 2 breaking the days between games rule I believe. No one should get a win or loss for it. Both teams are 0-0.

As for Throck and Grady!!! I can assure you Coach Mallory and I exhausted all avenues before making the decision to call the game. We contacted 6 officials associations and none of them had a crew available for either day. We made sure cancelling was THE LAST option. Neither one of us forfeited, we called it a no game.

Officials cannot "call a game", they can suspend a game sure enough, but at that point it is up to the coaches, athletic directors, school admin to make several determinations if weather, power, etc become an issue.

First they have to decide how long they are going to wait that day to resume, there is a finite time where kids haven't eaten, etc. Commonly you hear, if we get another strike after time X.

After that has been met there are 4 options set forth in the rule book that must be decided between the participants, officials have no input or say in the matter. The four options are:
1. Reschedule at a later date
2. Forfeit
3. Terminate the game with a determined final score
4. Declare the game "no contest"
