gasoline

Making a flying trip down to Dallas this wekend to watch #2 son's junior college soccer team play in the Div 3 playoffs, I noted the following:
Fillup in Minooka, Illinoisy: $2.12/gal
Fillup in Joplin, Misery: $2.01/gal
Top-off in McAlester Oklahomely: 1.99/gal
Fillup in Irving, Tx: $1.97/gal
Fillup in Muskogee, Oklahomely, $1.98/gal
Fillup in Rolla, Misery: $2.03/gal
Misery used to have the lowest gasoline prices between Illinoisy and Texas, but I think they must have really raised their state gasoline tax.
[ November 06, 2006: Message edited by: Old Bearkat ]

Finally dipped below $3.70 for regular here, but you go about 20 miles down the road and it drops to 3.40-3.45/gal. Oh well, at least it's falling for now.

It's like 2.67 for gas and 3.69 for diesel in Paducah.
I still can't see why diesel is higher than gas. Diesel is cheaper and easier to make than gasoline. They are just sticking it to the farmer! And they wonder why we need farm subsidies??

But that's 3.00 for highway diesel. Farmer is paying around $3.00 for his diesel.

Truck drivers consume exponentially more than farmers. The oil companies are sticking it to the truckers, and the farmer is just collateral damage.

It is a matter of refinery capacity. For the most part, gasoline and diesel use the same fractions in a barrel of crude, maybe a 40-50% overlap. A refinery can only process so much crude into gasoline or diesel, so most companies do what will keep political pressure off them as much as possible by processing more gasoline at the expense of diesel. With supplies restricted, price goes up.

And don't forget, taxes have been jacked up on both a lot lately, especially on diesel.

$2.10 in Mesquite 10-23-2008

The San Antonio newspaper showed pictures of gas stations in the Rio Grande Valley at $1.999.

And it's really bad when I think of that as a bargain.

I remember going to Hawaii about 10 years ago. I think gas here was around a buck or less and maybe $1.50 in Maui. We decide to take the drive to Hana and take the warning to fill up before you get there because gas is REALLY expensive there, about a 30 mile drive on winding roads.

We stop at a convenience store with the only gas pump in town. $1.999 per gallon. (BTW, it was $5.299 in August, according to an article I found on google today)

I think to myself, never, ever in my life will I pay $2 a gallon for gas. Silly me.

All I know is everytime I drive past a gas station, I'm getting screwed. Some Arab bigwig sneezes, and the price of oil jumps $5 a barrell.

And the Empty Suit that got elected President is willing for us to pay $5 a gallon or more for foreign gas to create his utopia in America. Sorry, buddy, the only Utopia I wanna see in America is a little town north of Uvalde playing sixman football. If our Dear Leader would make a statement tomorrow opening drilling, oil would drop so low that the Shieks would be sending nice 16 oz glass drinking tumblers along for us to get for free at the gas stations with a fillup.

I think you're right. Even if they didn't drop their prices immediately, we wouldn't have to use our own oil long. 1 or 2 months of no income from us would change some minds about prices.
