You know I was always told the Gordon vs Strawn game was alot like Pentacostals -vs- Convicts, So I left it off so I wouldn't offend any church go-ers or any penal system folks....

Now you can decide who are the Pentacostals and who are the Convicts

I'm sure if you talk to the good folks from Gordon, they will say they are the penecostals and Strawn are the Convicts. And they may be right. But I'll tell you the only differences between the good people from Gordon and the folks from Strawn are we folks from Strawn don't take the back roads to the liquor store and we don't drink our liquor from a Duck Comander glass.
GATA Hounds!!
Beat Gordon!!

I never heard that before...but I do know that when May played Gordon way way way back in 1984 it was the only game that Coach told us to keep our helmets on after the game was over. Will say this for Gordon they played hard and hit hard until very end.

ReeSee, have you moved? When my daughter babysat Ryan, Rowdy, Rayna you lived on a backroad to Mingus.
Your right about the Quackhead glass. Those camo uniforms Gordon has are downright ugly.

Congrats to the Longhorns on a dominating game. Wasn't as close as the score shows.

Proud of those Greyhounds! They never gave up!!

Congrat's to the Horns too. Win out. Beat the heck out of may and everybody else.
Congrat's to the Hounds too. They did never give up.
First, they were a grand total of 24 points from winning district in what's been called the toughest district in the state.
Not sure about the dominating/as close as the score shows part. 22-20 at the end of the first, I thought x 4 = we win 88-80 in a shootout. Both teams scored every time they had the ball . Then we fumbled on the 1 and couldn't stop them the rest of the half 44-22. 23 points from being 45'd. Really proud of the way the defense came out and stopped them in the 3rd after the 1st half. Had em' within two scores but they scored again.
Still didn't give up.

I havent had the chance to broadcast a ton of games since I am constantly deployed to the middle east and Africa, but I have to say that was not only the best games yet to broadcast, but also just purely one of the most electric Gordon Strawn games I have ever been a part of overall! You could tell the heart the Greyhounds were playing with in the second half, facing the end to a season that so many of those seniors had been working for, playing with each other and starting since freshmen. It has still been since 2006 that either team has won on the road I believe, aside from the 2008 playoff game when both were on the road. It sure would have been more fun to face each other undefeated, and looking at doing it again in Mineral Wells for the quarterfinals. I have to say that the best moment of the night was when Gordon went into victory formation on the last play, the two teams approached the line of scrimmage and shook hands before the snap. GREAT GAME!

As a person who has been part of the Strawn-Gordon Rivalry for 51 years it is amazing at the transformation. Although it is still a rivalry, and the games are played hard, the kids are most often times friends off the field. This is a big change from 20-30 years ago. I enjoy rivalry games and understand how they bring out the best in each team, but after playing, coaching, and watching them for so many years, I have learned to appreciate it is just a GAME. Tonight's game was played clean by both teams and there are great kids on both sides. Good Luck to all these students as they move forward in football and life.

Well said Mr. Holder.

Does anyone have a scoring summary and or maybe stat's on the game they could share?
The Mineral Well Index said 14-14 at the end of the 1st. I thought I remember looking at the scoreboard and Strawn led 22-20. Then Gordon scored within a minute of the start of the 2nd. Strawn drove to the 1 and fumbled, to me a key play in the game. Am I all mixed up?
The Index also had Harry Nowak throwing a 35 yd TD I don't remember although the #'s on their uniforms are hard to see. I remember him catching a pass for a TD of about that distance, I think.
Another key play of the game to me was at the start of the 3rd. Strawn didn't stop Gordon once in the 1st half.
They did made Gordon work for it on nearly every drive. To start the 3rd the Hounds held them to 4th and long (10?) but Gordon scored on a beautiful one handed catch to go up by 30.
Strawn came back and scored then did stop Gordon on 4th down. That gave me hope into the 4th.

I sent a score at the end of every quarter. Here is what I sent.
End of 1
Strawn 22
Gordon 20

Half
Gordon 44
Strawn 22

End of 3
Gordon 52
Strawn 36

Final
Gordon 60
Strawn 50

So the Box score should look like this

Gordon 20 24 8 8
Strawn 22 0 14 14

I remember Harry catching a TD pass early, and throwing a TD pass late. Dont remember the specifics or if there were more.
