Forfeits?

Looking at the scores...lots of 1-0 scores.

Did a lot of teams forfeit?

Is this a normal week 11 happening?

Yes, those were all forfeits. No, it's not normal, at least not from what I've seen since I took over in 2021.

I really dont know what to call the Richland Springs v District 16 Runner-Up Bi-District game...was told district 16 didnt certify a runner-up...so who would RS get a forfeit win over? So is it a bye or a forfeit win...if it is a forfeit win then who is it over? Crazy

Last I saw I thought it was supposed to be Calvert. Is that not the case anymore?

If any team should get the forfeit, I'd say it's Calvert but, from what I understand, the district didn't certify any #2 seed so I'd assume that means a BYE for RS. That's what I'm leaving for now, but I do hope to get in contact with someone this week for more clarification.

In the bracket I maintain I have to put it as a forfeit (1-0) as I don't have bye weeks programmed in excel, nor do I know how to do that, LOL. I might have to fix it as it will jack up scoring averages though.

I know I should of posted a reply last month but never to late for info. In RS having a BYE and District 16 not certifying a runner up, could the UIL given that spot to an Independent team like Keene Chargers(7-3) ? Are Independent teams included in the playoff?

No they are not as they are not in a district nor are they a part of the UIL in football

Should this situation be considered a forfeit or a no-game? A scheduled game between a team with 15 varsity players and 25 JV players, and a team with 9 varsity players and 7 JV players. The large team has 4 players with injuries and so the day before the game they call and say they need to cancel because some of their best players are hurt, but say that they would like to play a JV game.
The smaller team has no choice but to let the big school back out on their varsity.

Question: Shouldn’t the scheduled game be considered a forfeit?

Just me, but that's a forfeit.

Someone please give us the finer details of the 2002 Calvert/Sanderson State Championship game.
The basics of the story are: Sanderson goes in at half one score away from sending Calvert home by mercy rule, only to loose the game. Strange things happen...

Is it a district game or a non-district game?

also so I understand this...Team A has 40 players and Team B has 16 players; Team A wants to change the game last minute bc some varsity players are hurt? If that is the case sorry no...Team A has enough players to play a varsity game and if they refuse to play that is a forfeit.

My rule on forfeits was that if a team STARTED the season and forfeited because of injuries or other reasons AFTER they had played a game, it was a FORFEIT. If they never started the season it was an open date.

When I was a district president for VB/BB (TAPPS), we went into a district that had some pretty lax rules. If the key player was hurt, sometimes there would be a school trying to reschedule the game. We set up a rule that if you could field 6 girls in VB and 5 players in BB, you had to play the game. Might not be the 5 or 6 you want, but the Spurs didn't reschedule games because David Robinson was hurt.

Schools were permitted to mutually reschedule games, but the rule was that a team did not have to play more than 3 games in a week (VB/BB), so rescheduling -- especially late in the season -- was often not an option; and it's an option that probably wouldn't work in football unless both schools had the same bye week.

Granger once said he used 1-0 for a forfeit because there actually was a six-man game than ended in a 2-0 score.

In my way of thinking it is “next man up”. As long as you have 6 available you play the game. Maybe not all starters, but enough to play. I’ve even seen a team more than once finish the game with 5 players.
