A football coach is a person who is willing to lay down your life for the good of his team.

You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four.

The reason women don’t play football is because eleven of them would never wear the same outfit in public.

I am delighted to have you play football. I believe in rough, manly sports. But I do not believe in them if they degenerate into the sole end of any one's existence. I don't want you to sacrifice standing well in your studies to any over-athleticism; and I need not tell you that character counts for a great deal more than either intellect or body in winning success in life. Athletic proficiency is a mighty good servant, and like so many other good servants, a mighty bad master.

Too bad Teddy did not apply that wisdom to government. The root of our way overexpanded federal government has it's roots in his presidency.

O BK...it is like he said...government was meant to be a good servant...but we have made it into a bad master.....one reason being being is we have elected characters...instead of people with character...

Act like you been there before. Don't remember who said it, but someone needs to tell some of the NFL players that are on 0-7 teams, that when they score, they need to practice this advice. Or when they are behind, 40-0, and they make a tackle, then they act like they just won the Super Bowl. So embarrassing, and a product of the "me" syndrom.

That quote is attributed to Steelers coach Chuck Noll, who disapproved of endzone celebrations, saying "Act like you've been there before."

And, of course, there's this one from Vince Lombardi, upset early in the 60s when the Packers lost a couple games in a row, speaking to a team meeting:

"Gentlemen, we need to get back to basics. This (holding a football) is a football."

From the back row, Max McGee, a famous receiver, curfew-breaker (with Paul Horning) and later, radio broadcaster, said, "Slow down, Coach, I'm taking notes."
