Finding issue with Rankings

OK, I'll play, with the disclaimer that I have no issue with the rankings as we all know the only thing that matters is whether you win the next game and with our small rosters that depends a lot more on things that cannot be taken into account by a formula, i.e., injuries, grades, etc. However, if we are just talking about whether rankings make sense in a given week, I would point out that Boerne Geneva beat Milford 40-36 and currently Milford is ranked #20 overall with a 298 score and Geneva #30 overall with a 292 score. Add to this fact the following:

Abbott 96 Milford 50
Calvert 47 Abbott 36
Calvert 32 Austin Veritas 30 (@ Calvert)
Geneva 54 Austin Veritas 20 (@ Veritas)

...and to me, the 298 Milford, 292 Geneva makes little sense.

What is the deal with the dates on these posts? My response to the first 5 posts is listed first and it shows the people below posted later this evening and tomorrow?????

Someone posted an argument about teams being ranked ahead of other teams. Unfortunately, they did not include any actual team names, so I am to assume it was just a team that was undefeated or close that plays a very weak schedule wondering why they weren't in the top-50.

I know the rankings are not perfect. There are time when tweaking of the system has to be done. The system is VERY different than it was 20 years ago. One thing to understand is that 6-man football has an extremely high variance. Not only are the scores dramatic, but also teams can dramatically change after an injury or two or maybe grades coming out... One or two players can really change a team.

That being said, I am starting to take a closer look at why some teams are not moving the way I think they should. If you have noticed such a situation, please let me know. I need details. The best is to run the why test on them... http://www.sixmanfootball.com/why_test.php and send me the link (post it here)

Thank you.

Granger:
How is it that Castle Hills is ranked 5th and Fred. Heritage is ranked 3rd when Castle Hills beat Freddy head to head in Fredricksburg? Does reputation of teams play a part in the computer index score?
Thanks,
Coach Davis

Nevermind...there are teams ranked really high and I'm not sure what bumped them up so high...how they move so many spots...while others with similar things happening to them don't move at all...examples to follow...

This is something I was typing to Leman in an PM.... I agree with you both----but.

If you look closely at FH and CH, you see they are actually less than two points away from each other. Both have pretty atrocious schedules, that really do not help them. They haven't even really been 45-ing the teams they are much better than. FH average opponent's strength is on average 38 points better than CH. That's huge.

The real problem is that there are many layers of teams. The system is MUCH more dynamic as we add teams, especially since most are added towards the middle down, as far as quality of play is concerned. There are stop gaps in the there to prevent too much movement. This continually needs to be loosened.

The system was designed to move CH in the range of FH after beating them. CH actually moved ahead of them. Since then, if you notice closely, FH won this week over an opponent that was favored. Not only did they jump, CH jumped a bit as well (not as much). Look at the rating (not ranking). With the week off, CH did get as big of a push, as the more recent a game is influences they system more.
