Favre is done- how will lifegate sports ever survive?

11-man fan
Just saw the main cheesehead is hanging up his cleats. It is a sad story, he was a great guy, fun to watch.
I feel even worse for lifegate sports......I mean i bet he has posters of this guy up through-out his house/office. Even the bobble-head!! HAHA

Seriously though, the state of Wis has got to be sick. The PAck have such a great year, people think Favre is def coming back, have a young team, make playoffs and BAM------Starting QB for Packers, Aaron Rodgers!! Well, that sucks!!

You know he was waiting for them to sign Moss, they didnt, and he is done!! Ouch!!

I am in mourning.

But hey, life goes on and we knew this day was going to come. Aaron Rodgers showed in the Cowboys game that he could step up and play. Yeah, it won't be Farve, but hey, you Cowboy fans took awhile to replace Aikman.

For Farve, it makes sense. He broke loads of records last year and went out with a good season ... 14-4 ain't chopped liver, and I was able to see his last game.

Brett has two daughters, both teenagers, and they would spend the fall semester in Green Bay schools and spring semesters in Mississippi. So, I can see as a dad how that affects the family. Yeah, there was a chance the Packers could go as far in 08 as they did in 07, but maybe not. And as you get older, that off season routine to stay in shape for a very grueling season doesn't get easier ... or any more fun.

It's nice to have the luxury of making the choice and the terms of walking away. He has a nice exit bonus coming to him and he can sit in the bayous of southern Mississippi shooting at any critter that comes along without worrying about where the next meal is coming from.

Life is good, I guess.

And the Packers ... and I ... will survive. Thanks for the ride, Brett.

I saw this on another board.......

Lifegate, I have a plan. Atlanta just released Joey Harrington, Green Bay should snatch him up and then they would never miss whats his name.

Might work. The last quarterback we got from Atlanta did pretty well. Heard he retired the other day. Name started with an F, if I remember.

If the guy lives in or around Green Bay, I can believe it.

Heck, the paint stores there only sell Green and Gold paint. The average kid has 30 Packer pieces of apparel in their closet.

I saw the greatest work of blasphemy, no wait, let's call it what it is ... pornography ... in the San Antonio Express News today.

Some fishwrap writer suggested ... and had a picture as well ... of Brett Farve in a ... Granger, forgive me for writing these words on this board ... Chicago Bears uniform.

There should be laws against such filth that children, poor innocent children, could read and see such revolting images.

Okay, I think it's better odds that Brett will return to football this fall than stay retired. My guess is that the Packers will welcome him back with open arms (but probably want a definite ... one year or two ... word on Brett's long-term plans). I know Aaron Rodgers will be po'ed, but I think that can be settled down.

Other options are to trade him or release him ... Bears (who still stink), Vikings (ditto), Ravens and Bucanners are possibilities. But Brett Farve in anything other than Green and Gold is like the Pope converting to Islam.

This talk really doesn't suprise me. Brett is a competitor and this time of year, it was going to be tough to be away. He still has game (although the Packers last year went to the short game and let the receivers make the yardage ... remember the Dallas game where he went for the long ball and away from the game plan; Rodgers came in, played the game plan, and brought Green Bay back into the game), yes he's a step or two slower and closer to human than a few years back, but he ain't no chopped liver, either.

I really was disappointed that he decided to retire, but as I thought about it, I would have done the same thing he did. He took a team no one expected to make the playoffs to a 14-4 record, NFC title game, and a field goal in an overtime short of going to the Super Bowl. It was probably as close to leaving at the top of the game as anyone outside of John Elway and Michael Jordan has ever done.

And then again, Brett could say, wait a minute, what in God's good green earth was I thinkin'? I'm stayin' home.

Talked with a friend in Green Bay yesterday ... says the Farve story is so big in Green Bay (and sounds like the fans are more-or-less fed up with the whole mess, about half want to string up the Packers management and the other half wish Farve would just go away) ... anyway, he said that if there was a worldwide thermonuclear explosion, it would only be on page three or four of the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Hint ... this weekend, the Packers Hall of Fame is having an induction ceremony and Brett Farve is going to come up to introduce Frank Winters, one of his linemen. There's thought that this might be the first opportunity for Brett and Packer management to sit down and talk things out ... although now the President of the Packers organization, Mark Murphy, will be in Florida for his father's funeral.

Lifegate, what is your opinion on this Favre mess?
Favre is a great player, but in my opinion he has put the Packers in a VERY BAD situation. If he felt pressured by the Pack to retire at the end of the season, then he should have said something then about wanting to be released. Then he could have had all offseason to consider his options. Again, just my Cowboys opinion, I think the Packers need to stand their ground and only trade him if they/he does not want to play for them. But, please dont trade him to the Vikings. Trade him to a AFC team like the Patriots or Colts, lol.

You're right ... this isn't a good situation however it ends. Well, unless Brett comes back and leads the Pack to a Super Bowl win ...

Brett's played this "should I retire or should I not" game for years. While I wish he had decided to stay on and said so this winter, I can see why he retired. And I knew he was enough of a competitor to have buyers remorse about the time when training camp started ... you know, if every July since you were knee high to a grasshopped you've had football training camp, what do you do that first one when there ISN'T a training camp.

When Brett wavered this spring and the Pack top brass had lined up a private plane to head to Mississippi to see Brett and Brett backed out again, they thought it was final and time to move on with Aaron Rodgers.

But I still think if Brett is serious about coming back, the Pack takes him back. That's my opinion, and I only own one share of stock, and they haven't gotten around to consulting this member of the ownership group. My guess is that Brett applies for reinstatement and the Pack trade him ... I'm hearing Washington as very interested.

I did get my season tickets last week and Brett's smiling face is on the Vikings Monday night game tickets ... which reminds me, our season ticket group (the Gold package) really got screwed ... the Green package (old Milwaukee season ticket holders) gets the 2nd and 5th home games of the year ... this year, it's Dallas and Chicago.

U have season tickets to the Packers? WOW.... Please dont let them trade him to the Redskins. They already got a gift from the Tuna in Jason Taylor. I dont think the Pack would trade him to the Bears, would not be a smart business move.
