eligibility issues

Don't know what the UIL rule is, but the TAPPS rule is pretty solid ... student must live with a parent or legal guardian or be a part of an established "exchange student" program.

There are also deadlines when a student must be enrolled (I believe a new rule deals with senior transfers; enrollment means "butt in a seat" at the school and officially unenrolled from the previous school). There used to be fall, winter, and spring transfer deadlines (the fall deadline was early September) for transfers to be eligible for district and playoff competition.

Please explain your question. Move off from where? Does the kid live with the parents or guardian? Have the student lived there before? There's lots of different circumstances. So be specific about your question. No names are required however.

UIL rules say if the two schools involved sign the release then the kid can play if he lives in the district. If the kid doesn't physically live in the district, he loses eligibility for a year. TAPPS says you have to be in the district by the beginning of school to play fall sports. Other leagues have no rules about eligibility and kids can play going back and forth.

public school
parent work in district for one year
resided out side of district
student back and forth between school last year
parents move way off
student living with others this year

Residency goes by where the parents live. If the kid has not checked into another school, then he/she can stay at that school. If he/she checked out, he/she is a student of the district in which the parents reside.

If the student lives outside of the district and has not been enrolled for 1 year at the current school, the student is not eligible. If he has been enrolled for 1 calendar year at the current school, he is eligible.

You can apply for a residency waiver, but good luck with that one.
