DCTF Best of Six Man 2012

I just "discovered" this thread. Pretty good article, good exposure for the sport.
One thing caught my eye was the Covenant field being 100 yards long if you count the yard markers.
Do they plan on moving down to 11 man in the future? Nice looking field though. Tried looking on Texas Bob's stadiums to double check. Blurry picture, from the ground. But you can see the traffic on LBJ in the background. Ugh to that part.

Covenant will probably only be with us for a couple more years. They're playing crowded field football in junior high. My bet is that 2013 may be their last year sixman high school, but they could possibly get two more years out of it. And yes, the stadium is at the intersection of IH-635 bewteen Hillcrest and Coit Rd. Google maps has a pretty clear view (Valley View Ln. & IH 635).

Not sure how Covenants 100 yard, 11 man field is better than Borden Countys complex or Zephyr for that matter. But glad were getting some coverage.

Finally got around to picking up a copy of the Winter 2013 issue of DCTF.

Already got one of my students who wants the fold out poster of Johnny Heisman Football Manziel.

Sixman section is two pages (108-109) plus some of the private school page (110).

Sixman players of the year: D1 UIL - Tyler Russell, Abbott RB
D2 UIL - Chance Russell, Richland Springs SB/LB
Game of the year: Throckmorton 46, Windhorst 21. Also includes what may be the first print appearance of the words "crowded field" to describe 11 man football. By the way, it's now "crowded field football, a registered trademark of lifegatesports all rights reserved.

Richland Springs, Throckmorton, Valley, Grandfalls-Royalty, and Borden County are the early 2013 picks (in order).

TAPPS Six-Man Players of the Year: D1 Colby Boozer, Dallas Covenant SB/DB
D2 Tyler Swisher, Seguin Lifegate SB/DB (also TAPPS 6 man player of the year, "one of the state's most dynamic six-man playmakers" -- do me a favor and don't tell Tyler. It'll go to the kid's head.)

TCAL Player of the Year: D1 Mitchell Byrum, Tomball Christian Home School QB (also TCAL player of the year)
D2 Shadd Cole, Stephenville Faith Home School QB/DB

TCAF Player of the Year: D1 Caleb Thompson, Dallas Academy QB/DB (also TCAF player of the year)
D2 Blake South, Azle Christian WR/DB

Also, the final inside page gives one of "The Daveys' to the Surprise Team of the Year: New Braunfels Christian; past two years were 7-8, this year 9-3. And those losses, not noted in the article were to: Seguin Lifegate (TAPPS D2 champion), Fredericksburg Heritage (TAPPS D2 Runner up) and Dallas Covenant (TAPPS D1 champion).

Top games of 2012:

Can't go wrong with The Throck Windthorst game...others up for consideration???

Week 10 Blackwell beat Panther Creek at Panther Creek with a FG to advance to the playoffs

It will be interesting to see if DCTF will stick to their guns about Richland Springs next summer when they see how many seniors graduated off of this years team. I think it will be tough for them to repeat. Not impossible, but tough.

The DC guys in house at the magazine made the Winter Issue by themselves...no inside help. I would have suggested GF and Follett as the top 2 in DII.

Oneday, you come up with some of the darndest notions. Top game of 2012 Blackwell and Panther Creek? I thought that was more of a toothless dogfight myself. But, that is just the way it looked from where I sat.

I wasn't at the game but it was described to me...a game that was tied and a playoff spot on the line in the final week of the season with a team winning it on a FG in six-man...sounds like a good game to me! And remember I'm a Blackwell alum...
