Actually,
You guys have missed the point completely.
Its not that Calvert hasn't already
had several good coachez in their employ.
The problem is that the school administrators
and the community can't get together
and do what it takes
to keep a good coach there.
That is the problem in most schools
and the root cause of the coaching carousel.
The X's and O's are usually the easiest part.

Below is a "Letter to the Editor" by Lisa Roberson I saw in a newspaper.
She hit the nail dead square on the head! As far as I'm concerned, this goes for ALL schools out there!!
PARENTS are the PROBLEM
As a retired teacher, I am sick of people who know nothing about public schools or have not been in the classroom recently deciding how to fix our education system.
The teachers/coaches are not the problem! PARENTS are the problem! They are NOT teaching their children manners, respect or even a general knowledge of how to get along with others. The children come to school in shoes that cost more than teacher's/coaches entire outfit, but have no pencil or paper. Who provides them? The teachers/coaches often provide them out of their own pockets.
When you look at schools that are "failing," look at the parents and students. Do the parents come to parent nights? Do they talk with the teachers/coaches regularly? Do they make sure their children are prepared by having the necessary supplies? Do they make sure their children do their homework?
Do they have a working telephone numbers? Do the students take notes in class? Do they do their homework? Do the students listen in class, or are they the sources of class disruptions?
When you look at these factors, you will see that it is NOT schools that are failing but the PARENTS. Teachers/coaches cannot do their jobs AND the PARENT's job. Until PARENTS STEP UP and DO THEIR JOB, nothing is going to get batter!

Ms. Roberson is correct! I was a coach and a parent at the same time. It's hard but parents have to step up.

I think dogface2 is right too. Unless the school board members are like we have to be when we are coaching our own kids. You have to be dad and you have to be coach. Same with the school board dynamic. They have to be able to separate the two and not ask for favors for their kids from the coaches.

NOT all Board Members are that way.
Yes, there are BM's that have ONLY their kids and what they are involved in as their best interest.
I know of Board Members that have NO relatives in the school they serve and they have very little interest in what is going on.

The only power a school board member has is, hiring and firing the superintendent and setting your local tax rate. The power a school board member has is a myth.

All of the other crap that is seen as school board member interference or interest, is no more than parent interference by a school board member. They can be intimidating to some coaches and employees because of their status, or supportive. But with a strong, informed administration in control, the interference can be minimized.

School Board members set and (approve or DISapprove) stipends every year.
Having control of the Ol' Stipends can basically control a lot when it comes to coaches!

Has Calvert found a coach yet?
Ive been told they haven't officially hired (signed contracts and the like) but Calvert has who they want lined up and will likely finalize by the end of the week
